  1. 4/5We love our Halo!

We’ve had our collar for almost a year now and it has been life changing for our pup! He is mostly German Shepherd with a fair amount of Great Pyrenees and Alaskan Malamute thrown in so his best days are when he can roam our property at his leisure and walk the perimeter making sure nothing has crossed that he doesn’t know about. It’s even more enjoyable for him if the weather is below 25 and snowing. Not so much for me! Haha! This collar has allowed him to be a MUCH happier dog. He learned his boundaries very quickly and easily and hardly ever pushes them anymore. Tracking him down a mile away and in our neighbors property used to be an almost weekly adventure and reached the point where he was just rarely off leash but I have not had to do that even once in almost a year. The product is not without its glitches - new technology rarely is - but the company is clearly committed to keep making improvements with every update and my experience with customer service has been wonderful! They even offer frequent live zoom meetings with the owners of the company and members of the customer support team where you can learn more about the collar and ask questions. As I mentioned, there are still a couple of glitches with things such as battery life or the communication between collar and app being “outdated” more frequently than I would prefer, but I have no doubt those issues will keep being improved and resolved and I can update my review to 5 stars soon! Thank you Halo!

  2. 5/5Great purchase!

Over the years I have tried all kinds of radio transmitter collars to try and keep my dogs in the yard. I couldn’t do buried wire collars because my property is huge and we live on a giant granite hill in New Hampshire so burying isn’t feasible. The radio transmitter collars were a pain because they all had roughly circular coverage but my yard is not circular and it is very hilly so the coverage pattern wasn’t something you could expect a dog to learn. I had always stayed away from cellular GPS collars like the Halo because of the initial price, but if you add up all the other things I tried, it would definitely be more expensive than the Halo! The main features I like are the cellular connection that allows me to always see where the dog is on my phone, coupled with the ability to send feedback through the app, ranging from a tone, a vibration, or a shock. I’ve had lots of portable correction collars before, but all it takes is one deer in the woods and the dog is out of range of a normal transmitter collar before you can even get it out of your pocket. With the Halo, no matter where he is, I can give him a correction, and he knows what that sound means - he’d better get back in the yard or he’s going to be in for a shock! This collar coupled with the cameras I have around my yard allow me to leave the dog door open 24/7 - even if I’m in a different state I know I can see where he is and correct him if necessary. It’s a game changer!

  3. 5/5Great Product

We love the Halo system. We have been using this product for almost 3 years now. I have three dogs currently using the collars. 2 are 100 lb Labs and the other is an 85lb German Shepherd. We live on 7 acres that is mostly fenced with woven wire cattle fence. At our Previous home, our two labs were accustomed to an underground fence system, so it was no problem for them to convert to the Halo system. Our German Shepherd was trained using the halo collar system starting at about three months of age. He learned quickly because I worked with him daily to help him understand the differences in the different stimulations and tones. What’s nice about the product is that we always know where our dogs are using the Halo app on our iPhones. Keeps them off of the fence line and from engaging the other dogs or farm animals on the opposite side of the fence or digging under. If we need to call them back to the house it’s very easy to open the app, Select all dogs with the proper tone, and they know to return to the back door at the house. We also use it when we’re traveling to with our dogs to visit relatives. We can just set up a new boundary line, walk them around to identify the boundaries, and then let them go. Just like so many other products, you do run into problems that need to be resolved, and when we have encountered any problem, the Halo team has been very responsive to provide resolutions. We love the product!

  4. 4/5Pretty good collar

I have had this for about a month now, I think it is good at what it does, but the quality of materials do not reflect the price, very cheaply made plastic collar and the charger did not even come with a port to plug it in, so I immediately had to go spend even more money even though I had just spent over $550 on the collar. It works as advertised, although there is some lag in response time sometimes. I like the movable boundaries as I have a large oddly shaped piece of property. But to be honest I would try something less expensive first if I were starting over and see if something less expensive would work for you first. Especially if you have a smaller yard/land or live in the city somewhere and a four corner shaped fence would work for you. I give this a 4 of 5 because the customer service is very good, and it does work as advertised, however the cheap materials and no charger even though it’s very expensive is a big turn off. I will use it as long as it lasts however I don’t have high hopes as I have a lsg dog who is out of the farm all the time and it is clearly made from very cheap plastic that cannot last long. If it lasts a long time (a few years) than I would consider it money well spent, if not than I will not get another one. I also dislike that you can’t use it at all without a subscription. I tell myself I paid for the tech not the materials. 🤷‍♀️

  5. 4/5Rough start but love them now

I have 200 acres for my dogs to roam so didn’t think I would need some way to contain them until I found out my dogs were visiting my “neighbors” several miles away and across a fairly busy road. A GPS collar was the only real option for me so I did some research and bought Halo. Overall I am very happy with how they perform. I’ve had collars for 2 dogs for several years now. Started with the first Halo 2. I found the training confusing and used the method I used for in ground fence eventually. When they were working they were great but had lots of issues with charging. Halo was fantastic about warranty replacements (around 4-5 times I think) and I eventually got both dogs the next generation Halo 2 through warranty replacements. They are much improved and I rarely have issues with them. I took advantage of the discount offer on Halo 3 and upgraded one dog. The new collar has a waterproof charging port which is great. It uses Verizon instead of AT&T which I thought would be better but I haven’t seen a difference in connection when the boys are out roaming. I wish you could make an exclusion zone inside of a fenced area, beacons work ok but the battery life isn’t great. I also wish I could not have the collars switch to return whistle only when the GPS signal isn’t great. With as much area as my dogs have, I don’t need a precise border. I waited a while to write this review as my initial experience was not good but that is far in the past. Halo has continued to improve and I am very pleased with the collars now.
