   App constantly buffers. Tv, phone, tablet. Money grabbing opportunity. You barely save money for combo. And with the insane amount that you pay to watch a hockey game 3 miles from your house it buffers every minute. YOU HAVE OUR MONEY USE IT TO MAKE THE STREAM BETTER. MSG you have constantly made being a NYR fans the most expensive and difficult thing to be. We pay enough living in this area we shouldn’t have to PAY EXTRA to watch a LOCAL game. No one paying the amount we are paying should have to deal with this consistent buffering and believe me it’s not the WiFi, it’s not the weather… ITS YOU. Compensation or refunds for this pathetic waste of money and time streaming app. Someone needs to start a protest or something. Paying for the stream is cheaper than going to the game but this app is the laziest most insufferable excuse and horrible representation of our local teams. Again. LOCAL. It’s not like we’re watching from Arizona. We are right here supporting and watching for decades. Cant wait for the next fan appreciation night bobble head. I’ll be sure to bobble it every time my stream buffers. Oops broke at the puck drop. Lazy jerks.

2. 1/5UPDATE 4/4/25 - Poor development

   GOTHAM THIS IS MY BAT SIGNAL!!!! How do I make it worse than a one-star? The app did fix the constant lag. But, in Gotham sports app fashion they replaced lag w/ constant buffering and delay. The app will freeze every 2-3 minutes or so. Gotham’s app is set up to start you right after the freeze so you’re constantly a batter or two behind for Yankee games. You have a phone? YUP, you’ll know every run, strikeout, etc through notifications about 3 pitches before it happens on the tv. Gotham support (nice people) will tell me to check my internet speed and reset my router. It’s the only app that gives me a problem. Please dear Gotham gods, pay money to improve the app. I saw you ran a new commercial with a frank sinatra song. 1/5 of that cost could improve the app experience. Please. Help. Or just put all Yankee games in prime bc prime works perfectly. Last year’s review: doesn't not work when using the app on my Apple TV. It will work initially but slowly develops into a laggy mess that's unwatchable 2 minutes in. On the same tv, I toggle to the fire tv input, and the app is less laggy. My problem is the video quality. The motion is a serious problem. Compare this to other sports streaming apps say ESPN, Max etc, it's like watching a different product. It is similar or worse than an illegal stream. It is not my internet connection or tv since all other apps work without issue.

3. 1/5User Experience? Never Heard of Her

   The Gotham Sports app is, hands down, the least intuitive, least user-friendly app I have ever used. Navigating through a game feels like a punishment, not a convenience. Want to fast-forward? Be prepared to tap a button every single time you want to skip 10 seconds. That’s right—there’s no scroll bar, no skip-ahead feature, nothing. If you want to jump halfway through a Yankees game, you’ll need to tap that button hundreds of times like it’s 1998 and you’re trying to win a rigged arcade game. The interface looks and functions like it was designed during the Windows 98 era, with zero consideration for modern usability standards. It’s clunky, outdated, and frustrating beyond belief. For a sports app in 2025, this is a complete embarrassment. Whoever designed this should take a long, hard look at literally any other streaming platform. If Gotham Sports is serious about user experience, this app needs a full rebuild—from the ground up. Until then, avoid it unless you enjoy rage-pressing your remote into oblivion.

   I held off on writing this review hoping that some of the issues would be resolved… nope still awful. I have YES and MSG as part of my cable subscription and trying to watch on my phone or tablet has become so frustrating. Almost every time I use the app it asks me to subscribe or connect to tv provider. I have connected my tv provided countless times but it keeps removing it. So I go to link the tv provider and it won’t let me. Can’t even click the button to do it. The only way I can manage around this is to un-link my cable subscription, then completely remove my Gotham account from the app and restart everything from scratch. This needs to get fixed. So, once the app actually gets working to stream games is it good? No, no it is not. The “live” stream lags behind and ends up falling way behind even though it still says you are live. Sometimes ending up a full 1-2 minutes behind, which in the world of live sports is a long time. I end up getting texts or alerts before I can see it happen “live” on the app. This is unacceptable. There also is a real problem with the audio mixing as well as volume at times, very inconsistent. YES and MSG apps on their own were light years ahead of this Gotham garbage.

5. 1/5App is terrible, poor features and functionality

   MSG+ was fantastic. Why can’t we have that again? Paying 30$ a month to have an app that fails to load or “fetch” on a regular basis is absurd. I can never get into the app on my Samsung frame tv without restarting the app 4-5 times before it will either log me in or allow me to play the game. The app also constantly crashes mid game. Extremely frustrating. When it is working; you cannot rewind during live events. Another missing feature is being able to play an event from the start if you are joking in late. Why? Every other streaming service offers this. As a die hard Ranger fan who works nights I used to be able to start the game when I finished my shift as if watching live. Now I pay 30$ a month to have to join in late in the third and have the app fight me for log in and or crash 5 times. What a waste of money.
