1. 3/5Really stupid design flaw

   Don’t get me wrong, gmail is an amazing app. It allows for safe, secure communications to friends, coworkers, and employers. However, as the title states, I’ve found a really stupid design flaw in the way that two-step verification works. I recently just got a new phone, and so with that, I needed to log into things all over again. Really not a big deal, it takes five seconds. Or at least it should. I needed to log into my Pinterest as I hoped to find a Pin that I had been saving up for a while. I press the “Log in with Google” button, put in my gmail information, and then it says “Two-step verification. Open the Gmail app on your iPhone and press ‘yes’ on the message.” So I open the gmail app, and obviously I need to log into my account again. I click my account, put in my information, and then the same screen pops up. “Two-step verification blah blah blah open the Gmail app.” I AM ALREADY ON THE APP. At this point I’m super frustrated, and I try pressing “try another way” THE OPTION TO USE MY PHONE NUMBER IS GREYED OUT BECAUSE I HAVE “a more secure option” DUDE, If I want to use my phone number, you should let me. this is beyond stupid and annoying. So I get my laptop which is signed into my Gmail account thinking, okay, maybe the message was also sent through here. I check my spam, general inbox, and reload the page and press “resend” millions of times, and still, nothing. Gmail, I understand you wanting to keep your users safe, but this is just downright ridiculous. Especially if said user prefers to use their phone number because the gmail option clearly isn’t working, don’t grey it out, just let them. This is so inconvenient and such a waste of time. Please fix this.

2. 1/5Outdated look, missing many improvements

   Gmail as an app or browser interface has always struck me as clumsy and unintuitive, an app that tries to do something for everyone and fails at them all. It still has limited preview information about email contents in the inbox view, limited AI to sort emails, and features that can only be accessed if one is willing and interested in tinkering under the hood. Funny thing is, Google has a far better email app and it’s called Inbox. Inbox gives us reminders, a greatly expanded set of AI categories, and even better, the ability to create our own categories by bundling our gmail labels into the inbox screen view. Thanks to Inbox, I never miss a bill reminder (Finance category), have all my travel itineraries organised right in my email (Travel category), and even have emails for each of the organisations I do work for in separate categories, all thanks to label bundling. These innovative and useful features, and many others, are absent in Gmail, which now seems to be trying to make a silk purse from a sow’s ear. It’s ugly to look at, crowded and confusing to use, and an app that continues to favour three steps to do something rather than one easy step. In its infinite wisdom, Google has decided to axe Inbox and keep Gmail,a decision that makes little sense to me. Try something else. There are email apps that do what Gmail does and are cleaner, easier to use and more pleasant to look at. Or lobby Google to keep Inbox, right now it’s the best out there.

3. 1/5Yes, it can be as bad as everyone says it is

   June, 2021 I spent some time reading reviews after people updated to this whatever version and there's a lot of unhappiness about it. That it doesn't update automatically like some Google apps do even though I have automatic updates turned off is probably the only good thing about this update.I know I said I’d check out more mail apps but I didn’t. It’s such a PITA to do that, isn't it? Google doesn’t care if we’re frustrated. We're just little people. ____ There are things that don't make sense that have always made perfect sense before. They weren't as attractive as they might have been or were looking dated but they weren't granite tile countertops or shag carpeting kind of dated since they functioned smoothly without getting food bits stuck in them. Now there are things that should be so easy but then I find out I've been altogether wrong. Please don't keep releasing bad versions. I updated to a terrible one and the reviews are indicating the next update is awful. You had a functioning product that you broke. Why? ---- I tried to do something I hadn't done since you all had messed up the app. Since it was so bad my plan was: - Remove stars ✨ until only 1 ⭐️ remained. I'd already done that. - Find a 3rd party app that functions better. Annoying, but I hate this Gmail app almost as much as I do Facebook Messenger. That's a bad'un too.

   The fact that I’ve gone out of my way to review an email app should say something. Why on earth can you not select all to delete mass emails through the app? It’s infuriating. I am rarely on my own desktop or laptop at home. I spend most of my online time at the office. And for some ridiculous reason, my company is extremely paranoid about gmail and has it completely blocked. Thus, I cannot log into my personal email through my work computer. I can only use my phone. But can I quickly select multiple/all emails in my junk folders to delete them at once through the app? No, I cannot. I have to select each one individually, which takes roughly a million years. Because I, like I’m sure a lot of people who have been using the same email since they were a teenager, have thousands upon thousands of junk emails sent to me every hour. So, to quickly and efficiently clean and organize my inbox, I must log into my email on my desktop at home in the evenings while my toddler is screaming at me. But do I do that? Of course not. Who thinks of cleaning their over-cluttered email inbox with their very limited evening free time. So of course, my millions of emails stack in my inbox for months until I can’t take it and eventually attempt to clean it all out, which takes hours, and I inevitably give up, and thus the cycle repeats. For the love of God, Google. Please add a feature so we can select all in the app and save my sanity.

5. 3/5Needs to change and add updates.

   Hi I am an old gmail user. I have been using it for years. I am a person who gets a lot of junk spam emails and its very very frustrating. I do not blame gmail for this but I have to say whenever I block junk spam email adresses they can still email me and it just goes to spam now this is a problem. I want to be able to block the spam junk makl adresses without them being able to email me still, I would love if the developers made it so whenever a gmail user blocks a junk spammer email adress that the gmail user will not receive any of the emails that the junk spammer email sent to them once they have been blocked. Its irritating my spam gets filled up everyday I get at least 500 spam emails from useless spam junk people who have nothing better to do then sit behind the screen all day trying to trick innocent people. I understand it is not gmails fault for junk email but I feel they could update gmail so you dont receieve junk email from people you blocked like at all even in the spam. Another thing, I would love to be able to change my email address name I do not want to make a whole new email but I want to be able to change the email adress like the name and etc. People tell me if I dont want junk mail I need to change my email adress name but I cant, it doesnt work. I wont need to change my email adress if the gmail developers made it so blocked email adresses cant email you at all and you wont recieve it even in spam. Sorry for a long critical review but something needs to be done about these spam emails. Overall I love gmail other than these problems…

   the jamming in of AI everywhere is getting so frustrating. even when you disable the "smart" features, some of them remain on and your screen will greet you with a "request" to turn them back on every time you open the app. just let me check my email without raiding it for content.
