5/5thank you
I am Jiang Linhan, a university student in China. I actually didn't like exercising before, but after a semester of sitting for long periods, I gained 10 kg. So I need to lose some weight. I discovered that dancing in Apple Fitness+ is suitable for me, and I dance every day. However, sometimes I don't know how long I should dance or if I should do another 30 minutes. The gentler option gives me a suitable reference indicator, like the progress bar on the homepage, which helps me understand whether I’ve met my daily exercise goals or if I haven’t done enough. It allows me to arrange my life easily and prevents me from overexerting myself and causing muscle strains. Also, the Apple Watch is compatible, but I prefer to stay consistent with Fitness+ and use Apple's official fitness app. I don’t have any other reason for this preference. However, I have to say that it offers many features, and most of them are free. As a student, I don't have much pocket money and can't afford the premium version. But the app developers have been kind enough to leave the essential homepage progress bar and widgets available for free users. I really appreciate that! 👍 Thank you for your development!

4/5Amazing, but requires user involvement to have real value
I’ve been using this app for a couple of years, and it is by far the best fitness tracker I’ve found. I’ve been able use Gentler Streak to find fitness that’s sustainable while managing chronic illness, rather than being pushed to burnout with arbitrary goals. I love that the developers have continued to integrate more health data as it’s become available, and I’m excited to see how the app keeps evolving. The only reason I can’t give this app 5 stars is that for non-cardio strength exercise (specifically yoga, for me) the perceived exertion that the app applies is way, way off. Every yoga class I take, the app registers as “extremely light,” even if I’m sweating bullets, can’t regulate my breathing, and my muscles are burning. If I don’t go in and update that to how hard the session really feels, I would be headed in the wrong direction in a serious way, pushing too hard and going straight into PEM. I can definitely understand why it’s hard to quantify effort with exercise where the difficulty doesn’t have an immediate link to heart rate, and honestly I’m not sure if this is something that really has a fix, but that’s been my only frustration with this app. Bottom line, if you are looking for a way to sustainably build fitness (especially if you’re managing fatigue and chronic illness), this app is a life changer; just make sure you’re digging into the details and making sure that the assumptions the app is making are correct.

4/5Still needs a bit of work
UPDATE: We still aren’t getting anything to show our steps as activity in this app. That’s a critical issue here. We shouldn’t have to log our daily steps as workouts to record the activity. I’ve tried doing this to have a more accurate picture of wellbeing and actually have the app saying I’m overreaching when it’s not that hard to walk throughout the day, taking breaks in between. Developers need to find a way to work this into the algorithm for the app. As it stands it seems that while other apps ignore the need for customization based on individual abilities/needs this app ignores the need to have basic data at its core. We need to meet somewhere in the middle here ASAP. ———— I like the app but there are area it needs work; 1) The new Wellbeing tab and syncing with Health is good, but why doesn’t it show our steps? and why aren’t our streaks reflecting our walking throughout the day? This needs attention ‼️ 2) I’ve had to edit sleep in other apps as it over estimated my time sleeping. But then this app shows “Insufficient data” under the Wellbeing tab.🤨 The day is there? I just corrected it so that the record is accurate. This shouldn’t be a problem. 3) One of the reasons I’ve liked this app is the ability to do things at our own pace. I don’t like the “reminders” about exercising or losing a streak. A streak shouldn’t rely solely on workouts but also steps. See point 1.

4/5Nifty for fitness, but harmful for womens health info
Long story short: The fitness tracking seems good, but the womens health articles read like they’re written by a quack and shame contraceptive use for cramps. The app has seemed good so far, and I find it refreshing that they focus on not just active days, but rest days as well. It could be nice to be able to dig in a little deeper at times to understand how they come to their recommendations for you. I reeeaally don’t like their Womens Health articles, though. They frame menstrual cramps as if they’re the woman’s fault from being too stressed or having a poor diet. Yes, those things can contribute, but menstrual cramping is incredibly common and not just some behavioral issue that would be fixed if we all lived a little healthier. They also state that if you use contraceptives to for these issues, that you should “keep in mind they don’t really solve hormonal imbalances; they just clog up the symptoms”. One common cause of menstrual cramping is endometriosis. Endometriosis can be managed and prevented from progressing through the use of hormonal contraceptives. It doesn’t just “clog up the symptoms”. It’s a legitimate treatment for many health issues, and the alternative is other hormone treatment or surgery, which is far more invasive. Their description is not just misleading but almost like they’re shaming people who use contraceptives (or anything “synthetic”). This could easily be harmful to someone who doesn’t know much about the topic.

5/5Sets a new standard
I couldn’t tell you how many workout trackers I’ve tried over the years but I CAN tell you that this is by far the best one I’ve ever used. The team that put this together actually gets what makes for helpful data and insight that you can really rely on to help create a sensible and sustainable workout routine that works — because it is works not just for FOR you but WITH you. And I got this about three or four days in, after both a poor night’s sleep and a pretty strenuous workout, when the app recommended . . . Rest! Or a gentle day of recovery, and suggested light walking. And it explained very simply that proper rest was a vital part of good and sustainable training. And what it DIDN’T do was just read out to me the next day after I would naturally have rested, that I hadn’t met my daily exercise goal. You know: those graphs and data points that simply make you feel like you’re a wimp. I could go on. But you just have to try this and use it for a few days and you will see for yourself that it’s made for you and that you’re going to want it with YOU going forward!

It feels like the year just started, yet somehow it’s already wrapping up. Which means: it’s that time again: your Yearly Activity Recap has arrived. Most of us move through the year one day at a time, often on autopilot, and it’s easy to miss how much those days stack up. This recap offers a bit of perspective. You’ll watch the year sweep past along the Activity Path - the steady stretches, the pauses, the returns. All the ups and downs life brought with it. Then it gathers the highlights: the time, the distance, the climbs, the energy and the rhythm your heart settled into. A reminder of the work you put in along the way. Everything comes together in a short animated summary you can revisit or share. A year always looks different when you zoom out. If Gentler Streak’s been useful, a quick App Store review reaaally helps. It means people hear about it from you, not just from us insisting how great it is. Got feedback? Do let us know! It took us a bit longer than expected - the viruses seem extra persistent this winter, and then the feature turned out trickier than first expected, but nonetheless we are here now, and happy to present our version of cardio fitness. NEW METRIC - Cardio Fitness aka VO₂ Max VO₂ max measures how efficiently our body uses oxygen during exercise - and that efficiency shows up everywhere, from workouts to everyday energy and how easily we move through daily tasks. It makes most sense when looked at as a trend, not an isolated number - consider it as another piece of the complex puzzle that is you. Your smartwatch estimates cardio fitness from recorded outdoor walks, runs, and hikes. You can compare your monthly trend to your average resting heart rate, steps, activity duration, activity energy, and distance - month by month, going back years. When you record any of the three activity types consistently, you will start to observe what behaviour impacts it, how changes impact you, and whether how you feel actually matches what you see. One thing worth knowing before you dive in: the estimate is most meaningful for those who run or hike regularly. If walking is your main outdoor activity, the estimate can skew higher than your actual running fitness would support. If your main activities are elsewhere - cycling, swimming, gym - the number may not reflect your actual cardiovascular fitness. The trend over time tends to be more telling than any single figure. Find Cardio Fitness in the Wellbeing section of your Streak tab. And a little reminder. Having the stats and data is fun and helpful, but don’t let yourself be dictated by it. YOU are the best, most accurate and reliable source of information on yourself. Gentler Streak, like any other wellness app, should be there to help build a better connection with yourself, not replace it - for you to notice changes in your body faster, understand the cause and effect better, and then based on that take decisions that truly support you. That’s what we’d like to achieve. If Gentler Streak’s been useful, a quick App Store review reaaally helps. It means people hear about it from you, not just from us insisting how great it is. Hello sweaty people! Happy to announce this neat update bringing photos ON the map. That, along with small user experience tweaks and some bug fixes. PHOTOS ON MAP Open any workout summary that includes photos, and you’ll see them pinned to the exact location where you took them on the route. This way your workout history becomes a record of what you saw, and not just where you went. If you want a quick trip down memory lane: why not do a lucky dip and pick random workout summaries filtered by Photos, and see where it takes you - you might be surprised what comes back. IMPROVEMENT We got some feedback regarding the Activity Path - apparently, when people discover it and it clicks what it does, it becomes a hero feature. In order to bring the “what’s this all about” closer to you, we’ve added a little “What’s Activity Path” button right on the Activity Path switcher - the one where you choose your daily, 10-day, or 30-day view. Hope it helps! If you’ve been loving Gentler Streak, a quick App Store review reaaally helps. It means people hear about it from you, not just from us insisting how great it is. Got feedback? A trio of nice additions in this one: new workout types, a fresh notification category to help you tune in to your body in the morning, and another round of faster loading. NEW Morning Check-In Notifications A new notification category that gives you a gentle, data-driven heads-up in the morning when there’s something worth noticing from yesterday. After an easy session or a hard one, after an overreaching day, when you chose to rest, or, for women, related to our cycle: to inform when we’re (likely) at our peak, and when we’re (likely) at our low. The benefit: the app pays attention so you don’t have to, and speaks up when yesterday has something to tell you about today. You’ll find it in: Gentler Streak → Profile → Settings → Notifications → Morning Check-In 13 Workout Types … bringing the total to 161! Lately our office has gone crazy for gravel rides, so that one had to come in, alongside 12 other most-requested types: Dog Running, Kettlebell Workout, Swimming Tethered, Outdoor Hand Cycling, Bouldering, Windsurfing, Beach Volleyball, Inline Hockey, Surfskate, BMX Freestyle, BMX Racing, and the one we suspect many of you have been waiting for: Assembling Furniture. IMPROVEMENTS Faster Loading Another round of loading optimization. The app should feel snappier on open, especially if you’ve got a lot of history. Got feedback? Hello, lovely humans! With this version, we’re not serving a feature update, but a friendship one. We’re happy to be joining forces with Tiimo, Apple’s iPhone App of the Year 2025. If you haven’t heard of them: Tiimo is a planning app built for the neurodivergent community: visual time-blocking, routines you can actually customize, and design that works the way ADHD and autistic brains work. As a yearly Gentler Streak subscriber, you get 40% off Tiimo’s yearly plan, plus a free trial if you’re a new user. Find the offer in Settings → Gentler Perks, whenever you’re ready. Why this collab? We met the Tiimo team at WWDC 2024 and clicked instantly. Both App of the Year winners, female-led teams, both building tools that adapt to the person rather than the other way around. We’re firm believers that mental and physical wellbeing go hand in hand - and that together, we’re stronger. You included. Hope you’ll like Tiimo as much as we do! If you’ve been loving Gentler Streak, a quick App Store review reaaally helps. It means people hear about it from you, not just from us insisting how great it is. P.S. Lifetime subscribers: Due to technical limitations with in-app purchases (which lifetime is), we can’t offer anything in the app, but please reach out to [email protected] and we’ll help out. Short but sweet - faster loading when you open the app. FASTER LOADING With new features like step count pulling in more data - on top of processing the 30-day Activity Path and your health metrics - the app started taking a bit longer to load. Annoying. Thanks to Luka’s effort, this version should fix most of that. The good stuff we recently snuck in: STEP COUNTER - Rather than turning steps into something to chase, this feature is designed to help you better understand your movement and how it supports your fitness over time. MONTHLY RECAP GET PHOTOS - Your monthly activity recap now with the photos you took mid-workout RPE SYNC WITH HEALTH - Sync RPE from Apple’s Workouts app - previously, only RPE logged in our app counted toward your Activity Path. TWO INSIGHTS - On pacing as a movement strategy and a wonderful personal story on living an active life with fibromyalgia. If you find Gentler Streak helpful, leaving a review on the App Store is one of the best ways to support us. It not only gives us a boost (seriously, it makes our day), but it also helps others find us more easily. Got feedback? Let us know! Time for a new daily status. When you are in the state of extra recovery after the days when you pushed hard, that will now also be reflected in your Streak tab! Also, a myth busted. New Daily Status Your not-so-olympic form already shows up in your daily fitness status. But those rare days when your body bounces back from strong effort and manages to recover exceptionally? They were not reflected in there, and that changes today! And yes, this status comes with Yorhart riding a unicorn: it only seemed right. New Insight You’ve probably heard it before: “Aim for 10,000 steps a day!” But did you know that number started as pure marketing, not science? In our latest insight, we break it down and show why following your body’s demand is more important than chasing some generic number. The good stuff we recently snuck in: Faster Loading - nuff said. Step Counter - Rather than turning steps into something to chase, this feature is designed to help you better understand your movement and how it supports your fitness over time. Monthly Recap With Photos - Your monthly activity recap now with the photos you took mid-workout RPE Sync With Health - Sync RPE from Apple’s Workouts app - previously, only RPE logged in our app counted toward your Activity Path. Two Insights - On pacing as a movement strategy and a personal story on living an active life with fibromyalgia. If you find Gentler Streak helpful, leaving a review on the App Store is one of the best ways to support us. It not only gives us a boost (seriously, it makes our day), but it also helps others find us more easily. Got feedback? Let us know! This September Yorhart turns 4! In app years, that’s adolescence: sort of past the awkward stage, sort of knowing who we are, and still sort of reckless. When we first launched, hopes were high, fears were higher, and the runway was… well, short. Four years, some celebrations, some ego bruises, and 122 updates later - people in 225 countries have downloaded our app! That’s the stuff developer dreams are made of. Thank YOU for being one of those giving us a chance. As a small thank you, on September 2nd, there is a special 50% off birthday offer! We’ll keep paying it back the way we know how: by always evolving. You know the thing everyone in iLand is waiting for in September? We are ready! THE GOOD STUFF WE RECENTLY SNUCK IN New Daily Status – Recovery Unicorn Those rare superior recovery days that happen after hard effort reflect on the Streak tab too. We have once again had a busy summer! The design style that has been stirring the development waters since June has also been what has occupied us the most. We feel liquid glass fits Gentler Streak perfectly, it makes the app softer and even more yummy to interact with. You’ll notice the upgrade on iPhone, iPad, and watchOS. NEW VISUAL LANGUAGE Liquid Glass All Over The design that mimics the look and feel of glass, adding translucency, motion blur, depth, and real-time environmental feedback. You’ll notice it in our tab bar, segmented controls, toggles, buttons, and all single cards (health metrics, sleep, and more). Layered Icon Support Aligned with the new Home Screen aesthetics, and not just for the original icon, but for all 25 custom icons too. Widgets Now supporting Clear (glassy) mode. STREAK TAB 4.0 An app is by nature always a WIP, always subject to change. And our Streak tab reflects that best. With this iteration, we hope to bring more in-your-face info, easier exploration, and a less cluttered interface. • Your Profile has moved to the top right corner, and is now the only thing calling your attention up there. • An improved picker for Activity Path, making it clearer which view is chosen and what you can choose among: daily, 10-day, and 30-day view - of course, all with liquid glass effect. • Go Gentler suggestions have moved to live under the Activity Path and are displayed as single Today’s Recommendations - hopefully more inviting and easier to act on. • Wellness category elements have been repositioned for quicker access and clearer understanding. No more scrolling to the left - now all “widgets” (vitals, steps, sleep, and period) are in view all of the time. • Insights waving goodbye to the first tab - with Monthly Recap still appearing every 1st of the month. UX REFINEMENTS You’ll notice a general, soft UX overhaul. Subtle improvements throughout the app go nicely with the glassy experience, they improve readability and speed of interaction without disrupting behavior for existing users, while sprinkling a little Yorhart touch on top of it. PREMIUM MARKERS In the free version, Premium features are now clearly labeled for better transparency. Once you upgrade, the labels disappear and only show up again when your subscription is about to expire, as a reminder of what Premium actually offers. All Premium supporters are now recognized in their profile. THANK YOU for making all this happen. If you find Gentler Streak helpful, leaving a review on the App Store is literally one of the best ways to support us. It gives us motivation, and helps others find us more easily. Got feedback? With this update, we’re hopefully smoothing things out for everyone experiencing longer load times, and for those who rely on voice support, too. UPDATED Faster Loading Processing health and fitness data is core to our app, and the more data-heavy features we add, the trickier it gets. App loading is a continuous work in progress, and we’re happy each time we manage to crack another nut, like this time. Improved VoiceOver There have been some issues on the Streak tab, which Jasna has now fixed. Kudos to Jasna! If you find Gentler Streak helpful, leaving a review on the App Store is one of the best ways to support us. For a small team, your reviews and ratings matter a lot! They help others discover us more easily, and help them understand what to expect from the app. Good ones also make our day. Got feedback? Let us know! This one is focused on accessibility, more efficient communication, and a little cleanup along the way. Accessibility You can now tap Yorhart on the Streak, and its state will be described in detail out loud with the help of VoiceOver. Post-Workout Notifications We’ve updated workout notifications - quick reminders to check how your effort affected your fitness. In the previous version, post-workout notifications sometimes arrived with a delay, and that should no longer be the case. Bug Fix Rowing sessions (indoors or outdoors) tracked with the Workouts app on watchOS26 are now correctly recognized.

Widget. New Widget. New Period Widget. Now, alongside Activity Status, Go Gentler, Vitals, and Single Vital, you can also add a Period widget to your Home Screen! Yay! Different phases of the menstrual cycle can affect how workout-ready your body feels. Keeping them in view helps keep them in mind and this widget does just that. It shows the current phase, cycle day, and expected readiness. Still, period is just one piece of your wellbeing picture, something to help you understand your patterns better. How cycle phases affect us varies greatly from person to person. It’s best to observe yourself and add notes with your workouts to learn what’s true for you, and then adapt your behaviour to it. To add a period widget (or any other) follow these steps: 1. Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen until apps start jiggling. 2. Tap the + or Edit button (depending on your iOS version). 3. Search for Gentler Streak and swipe through widgets - the Period one’s last. 4. Tap Add Widget, and drag to wherever you’d like it to be. Ever wished there was more info about Gentler Streak and how it works? You weren’t the only one. Turns out that “Is there a PDF?” is not just a thing of the 90s, as it came up more times than we expected, and now, thanks to our friends at Hinto AI, there’s something better available. Explore the complete Gentler Streak Guide, available in the app or on the web. It covers all features and probably everything you might want to know about how Gentler Streak works. Find it in: Gentler Streak → Profile → Frequently Asked Questions → For Everything Else → Find more answers here Or head to gentlerstreak.com. If you’re on desktop, tap FAQ in the top-right corner; on mobile, you’ll find it at the bottom. If Gentler Streak’s been useful, a quick review on the App Store goes a long way for us. It helps others discover it and hear what it’s all about from real people who actually use it (instead of just the product info from our side). Got feedback? Let us know! A couple of useful additions in this release: a Weekly Activity Recap and a new privacy insight. NEW Weekly Activity Recap These recaps carry the same spirit as our monthlies and yearlies, but on a weekly basis. The weekly recap compares your activity levels to the week before, helping you spot patterns and better understand your habits. It’s a simple way to stay aware of your effort, stay motivated, and make more deliberate choices. Look back at your week and see how active you’ve been across different sports, the distance you covered, calories burned, elevation gained, and see the photos you took mid-workout. Find it waiting for you at the start of each new week (Sunday or Monday, depending on your settings) in the Streak tab. NEW Insight - Your Privacy First This one comes from a question we get a lot in support: where does my data go? Do you have servers? How do I delete my account? To clear things up once and for all: everything stays on your device. No servers, no account, no data leaving your phone. We’ve put together a short article explaining exactly how we handle your health and fitness data. You’ll find it in the Insights tab, under the Gentler Streak 101 category, titled Your Privacy First. If Gentler Streak’s been useful, a quick App Store review reaaally helps. It means people hear about it from you, not just from us insisting how great it is. Got feedback? Do let us know! Email: [email protected] Reddit: r/gentlerstreakapp Instagram & Threads: @gentlerstreak Xiaohongshu: GentlerStreak Thanks for exploring your fitness with us!
