3/5How to improve app
1.) i need vitals. Best all encompassing way is to have the critical care report page on desktop version that is at the hospitals. Critical care has all the best vitals info including I/o’s, drips, sedation, vent settings, vitals, etc. 2.) MAR. I need to see when last dose of lasix or albumin given and how UO responded and o2 responded etc. 3.) the purpose of this phone app is to have quick access to important info on the go. Sure could be used in a hallway at work but there’s computers there. I need this app for when I’m home on call. I need to be able to check on my pts at dinner, at the store, right before bed. To check on vitals, drips, I/o I have to call the hospital nurses for updates or they call me. This takes me away from my life outside from work. 4.) when placing orders on phone there’s less ways to modulate timing and frequency vs the computer app. This is a drawback.

4/5Smart links are a must have for Haiku
Haiku is the platform I use the most to interact with my institution’s EMR especially on the inpatient side. My rounding starts with it, and most of my work is done from Haiku, reviewing recent vitals, labs, putting orders, adjusting meds, etc.. I also start my notes using the in-app dictation feature right after I see a patient and even do my billing from Haiku but unfortunately I cannot finish my notes in Haiku because of the lack of smart links that are routinely used in notes (meds, vitals, labs, I/O) to be able to properly bill. Without smart links in Haiku one have to go to the desktop at the end of the day to finish notes. To improve rounding efficiency smart links have to be added to haiku note writing. ALL providers use their phone haiku apps to round, I have rarely seen any use canto on iPad and thus more improvements and development should be done on Haiku. Update: still one year later smart links for writing notes are not available on Haiku. The goal is to be able for some providers to be able t do all their inpatient rounding work in Haiku from start to finish. Also would help to hav the ability to build notes in Haiku that can be copied forward and easily edited where necessary and the smart links are automatically updated. Jan 2024: any updates on this?!

5/5Good app.
I gave it full stars not because it’s perfect, but because it does what I need it to do, and like all of my associates and devices, that’s all I ask. As a hospital physician, my workflow is to go from room to room, ER pod to ER pod. If it’s a complex case, I will dictate the beginnings of a note and then finish it on a desktop. I won’t rely on writing notes on paper or remembering. Where epic haiku and canto are really helpful are putting in stat orders and putting in orders that cannot be verbal. Is there room for improvement? Absolutely. And the beauty of it is, our HIT and the epic people have been responsive and actually incorporated some suggestions our team has had. My workflow now is to carry an iPad with Canto from room to room, especially now that we can view and show images from PACS. It’s not a replacement for the desktop app, but neither is Word or Excel or Outlook for the iPad or iPhone. It’s fast, intuitive, dependable, and growing in functionality. I wish I could say the same thing about me.

2/5App has potential, but not well executed
I try to use this app on the fly when seeing inpatients, going to the ED, etc. it has the potential to be amazing - ie for critically I’ll patients or for seeing patients at an off site location (ie medical response team). Some features are literally half implemented - for example orders entry is enabled in the app, but once an medication is ordered, you cannot modify the frequency, just the dose. So you either need to cancel and re order (inefficient for pharmacy because they need to re verify a new order rather than verify the change), launch the full version on mobile device Citrix instance (which defeats the purpose of the app), or find a clinical workstation. I see that ordering from order sets instead of a la carte has recently been enabled. That’s great. Some things are just annoying. For an inpatient hospitalization, if the patient has had a procedure at any time during they hospitalization, the encounter type switches to procedure and you have to manually set to inpatient encounter each time you use the app be able to enable the order entry tab, which is hidden in procedure encounter type in the app, for some reason. Some features like care everywhere could be really useful, but again, half implemented. As long as you refresh care everywhere from a clinical workstation / desktop epic hyperspace instance you can view the information on haiku. But haiku will not initiate a refresh for care everywhere. So that pretty much defeats the purpose of care everywhere functionality in a mobile app, which makes using the app less useful for follow up across healthcare systems / or if new inpatients are transferred between healthcare systems.

2/5Unable to use for more than one hospital and no vital signs
The app should allow you to toggle between multiple - (at least two) hospitals organizations so that you have access to patient care while you’re on the move. Realistically many physicians care for pts at more than one place and access makes it easier for us to provide pt care. Also, the app does not provide anything more than stagnant vitals (like a single not even complete set obtained during some point of the hospitalization). A tab for vitals (that can be customized [because maybe all I care about are MAPs, etc]) similar to the tab for lab results would go a long way in making this app much more functional for those of us tracking pts over the course of the day and making pt care decisions. The alert/notify me function is very helpful.
