  1. 4/5Reliable and Useful, but could still be improved

Duo Rarely fails and and works pretty reliably. Been using it for 4-5 years now I believe, and it hasn’t failed on me once that I can remember. The fact that you can long press the push notification and approve it from there is invaluable (Though it would be nice if Duo advertises this a bit more, since at least one of my friends didn’t know about it. Perhaps an alert right after you approve a push through the full app sometimes?) However, there are a few reasons why it is not a 5/5 for me. I registered my iPad with Duo Mobile just now and it seems like I cannot press and hold on the notification to approve it. This may be a bug that goes away once I hard-restart my iPad. In which case, I will remove this from the review. Another thing is that you seem to have to choose which device to send the push to when logging in, instead of the push being sent to both devices. This isn’t the most gigantic deal (at least I can enroll my iPad in it), but it would be nice if the push is sent to both devices by default and you can approve it from either one. Security wouldn’t be compromised since you would need to authenticate into either device in order to approve it. And, if the user wants more security, then selecting it before sending the push could still be an option in settings, but in my opinion it shouldn’t be default. All in all, great authentication app (much better than Microsoft Authenticator in my opinion since you don’t need to enter the app to approve an authentication push), but definitely could still be improved.

  2. 5/5Easy to use and effective for folks with brains

I don’t write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so here. I work in IT and since we adopted DUO, it has proven to be effective and easy to use for the vast majority of users. The one’s that have problems are generally the ones that don’t know how to operate their devices, or they take issue with our policies because they have poor personal information security. These are exactly the people that force companies to adopt stricter security in the first place. I cannot speak to the complaints of folks who choose to use it for accounts that are not connected to a work or school environment, but if you get a new phone or lose or damage your phone, of course it locks you out of everything. That’s what it’s designed to do.

  3. 1/5Non-existent Customer Service

Duo Mobile has no customer service support. I tried reaching out to Duo, but they snootily told me that they only work with Duo admins. Duo Mobile doesn't have logos or labels for many sites including Etsy, PayPal, Zappos, AAA, etc. Since I use the same email address for these accounts (which is tricky because many websites want you to use your email address for your user name. Can anyone say "brain dead"?), there is no way for me to know which account to use for which. For example, Duo Mobile does not have a logo or label for Etsy so my Etsy account shows up in Duo Mobile as "Third Party (user name)" with a pink circle with the first letter of my user name in it. What?! You mean to tell me that if I add an account that isn't already listed in the "Add account" list for your selecting convenience, I'm stuck with about 50 vague, nondescript, misleading "Third Party" logos or labels, most all with the same account name (aka user name which is also your email address)?! But, alas! No help is available. That's only for the very special Duo admins. And I didn't like the confusing initial set-up, where Duo Mobile asks you to save a brand-new password for app recovery (should anything happen to your phone, causing you to lose access to your Duo Mobile app) after the initial account set-up, making it look like they're asking you for the account password but it's really the app recovery password (which is also saved on your phone which makes me wonder how you're going to find that app recovery password. LOL They don't tell you that you're supposed to write the app recovery password down on a piece of paper and put it in your fire-proof safe that is bolted to the foundation of your house. LOL). Grade: F-minus!

  4. 2/5Maddeningly glitchy with WatchOS 10

The Duo Watch app used to be a massive time saver when logging into my work network: A pushed prompt would pop up almost immediately when I wanted to log in, I tapped Accept, and I’m in. One tap on my wrist for the entire 2FA process is as efficient as it can get. You can also get codes from it manually for things that don’t use push approvals, and that’s it—like a good Apple Watch app it does only a couple of things, and it does them quickly and efficiently Or rather DID, past-tense. As of watchOS 10, when I tap “Accept”, nearly all the time it launches the app and does not accept anything. There isn’t even a way to get it to ask again at that point, and the Watch app intercepts the notification on the phone, so now I have to get my phone out and manually open the Duo app to get a prompt and complete authentication. Instead of making things faster, it’s even slower, because without the prompt on the phone there’s extra steps just to get to the app. I’m guessing that the interface tweaks in watchOS 10 somehow messed up the accuracy of button tap detection, but every other app works fine, the button is huge, and no matter where I try to aim it doesn’t seem to help. More to the point, this should have been worked out before release. It’s time-wasting enough that I’m likely to uninstall the app so I can at least save time on my phone by having a notification there.

  5. 5/5Saves My Facebook Account From Hackers

I set up this app some time ago, and just yesterday, Facebook sent me an email telling me that a request to change my password had been received and it gave me a passcode. It wasn’t me that was requesting it. Talk about a scam. Because of this app, I know that the passcode is provided by DUO and not Facebook. So, I just smiled because I knew my page was protected. BTW if you get one of these emails, don’t click on anything, just delete it. It’s tempting to click on that “if it isn’t you requesting the change, click here.” But, don’t do it. It could be the hacker trap. So, it’s worth the peace of mind to have this app helping to secure my account. Thanks

I was sent to Duo by Facebook in order to log on. Duo knows I have an account but won't allow me to log on or open the account to get a verification code from Facebook. As a reult, it has locked me out of Facebook which I use for business.

Downloaded the app, verified all required-suddenly got charges through the free trial, to sports information sites. Had to report fraud. This is total front for fraudulent charges. Beware!

  4. 1/5

Diceroll Security at best. Will the security code on my computer work on the Duo app? Who knows?! For worse results, increase the importance of signing into a device where Duo is installed; having a need somehow causes the service to ignore or deny the displayed code when entered into Duo's ecosystem. Other MFA's exist. Take what you will with that statement.

If I could give this app a negative star then I would do just that. I've been trying to log into my Maricopa account for days. It brings me to a QR code page, reloading the same page, and saying the QR code can't be scanned on my duo mobile app. I have to get into my school account and this running around is getting in my way. QR codes and bypass codes aren't working and no one is open on the weekends. I never received a code before now, and NOW can't login to my account. This will ruin evrythig
