  1. 5/5Love Dropout Content, App very functional, could be better

Love the content, no complaints there. Some of my favorite shows, so I use this app a lot. For the most part, this app is extremely functional, and none of the complaints I have keep me from using it. However a couple of changes would bump it up from ‘fine’ to ‘fantastic’. Firstly - it would be awesome if I could remove things from my Recents. Often I’ll have something there that I didn’t quite finish, or decided I wasn’t going to continue watching, or I finished offline so the app doesn’t register I finished it. A removal button on Recents would fix this, or failing that, a time based removal. If I haven’t come back to it in 6 months it’s not really recent is it? Second - I’d love a way to order my downloaded content. It defaults to most recently downloaded, which makes sense, but I’d love to order by show, or at least group by show. Right now I have to make an educated guess about which episode comes first - which is a pain specifically for Dimension 20 and Adventuring Party, and less of an issue with other shows. Third- love a mass delete function on downloads. Fourth - I would love if the app had a landing page for each episode that didn’t auto play. Sometimes I just want to read the description, and I don’t want to start watching, especially with the first point. Thanks for making a great app Dropout and making truly great shows!!! I hope the devs get a chance to think about implementing these features!

  2. 5/5This App Saved My Life

i had been a casual fan of college humor in the past but at the height of the pandemic when everyone was their most isolated i found myself reunited with dropout when i got into dnd specifically dimension 20. i got a subscription originally just to binge watch every season there was but i didn't realize that it would come to be not only one of my most frequented streaming apps, but a genuine support in my darkest moments. being a creative person especially a young queer artist the day to day can feel suffocating and glib, especially in the society we live in that only seems to get more bleak as the years go on but to go on dropout and know that any day of the week i can watch or rewatch some of the funniest people who love and care for each other and their communities so dearly just get on a camera and do what they love, making art and laughing with their friends, is truly special. after a while of watching dropout the dark times start to not seem as dark because the world still has people like them in it, willing to put actual care into their craft as well as everyone who contributes to it. it gives hope that one day you can have a job that you love as much with a community that loves you right back. in the age of fads and ever changing trends, i know that dropout is one of those things that never goes out of style, and that i hope to enjoy for many more years. if i could only have one streaming service for the rest of my life i know which one im picking.

  3. 5/5Awesome. Minor critiques but love it overall!

Baseline functionality, content, and general app construction wise? This app is wonderful, especially in comparison to so many other media companies who see their apps as secondary at best and therefore don’t put much of any effort into it. I think things like editing recents, playlists or at least grouping possibilities in my list, and easier removal of downloads would be great improvements. Edit (from previous complaint about a lack of short span rewind options): ha, turns out, tap once to bring up the menu, and hit the arrows to short span rewind/go forward. I edit my statement then to that’s a somewhat confusing UI (I assumed it would skip to the next video, when I stared at it the two arrows instead of one probably were mean to convey that, but I didn’t pick up on it for a really long time.) It also adds an extra step that I’m not a huge fan of, but it’s not the worst thing in the world. Also while I’m here editing things, shout out to (the many) whoever(s) who do the captions because they’re not only accurate which is wonderful, but they also get the *vibes* of the content. Audio descriptions are funny and accurate to what’s happening without being distracting (ex: (paraphrased) increasingly horny ‘yeahs?’ (Which was entirely on point and made that moment even funnier to me)) I appreciate the commitment to actual accessibility and putting in the full effort rather than half assing it like many others do. Overall, seriously a very good app, 10/10.

  4. 5/5Mediocre app for top-notch content

The Dropout team consistently produces some of the greatest content ever to have graced the internet. If you’re looking for something to make you laugh, think, and/or cry, (but mostly laugh) look no further! With what must be months worth of runtime already, with more added each week, there’s enough to last at least a couple of years, and at most, the time until you shuffle off this mortal coil and join the choir invisible. That being said, the UX is not great on either the web or iOS app versions. The search function isn’t particularly “function”al, though it could be with the right application of LLM semantic search using vector embeddings of the content. E.g., “The part with Chungledown Bim” should return not only the episode in question, but the matching timestamps as well. The closed captions accessibility settings aren’t particularly accessible either, needing to set the typeface (incorrectly labeled as “fonts”), size, color, opacity, etc. every time I open the app. To explain the 5-star rating: It’s to get more people in on the content, which, in the end, is what you’re paying for. If you love Dropout already, then you’re probably not looking at reviews before getting the app. However, if you’re the kind of person who isn’t already familiar with CollegeHumor/Dropout and maybe looks at reviews to decide which subscription is worth the money, then this review is for you, and so is the subscription.

  5. 5/5a genuine treasure trove, please get this app

is it possible to give more than five stars? would that i could. dropout is one of the few subscriptions that i am genuinely excited to pay for — please, take my money and use it to keep creating fantastic content. it’s the best streaming service out there, hands down. there are no ads, no tiers of subscription, no corrupt billionaire CEO whom it is morally questionable to support (just the definitely unhinged, very pro-equity son of robert reich). dropout features stand-up comedy specials, animated series, and hilariously funny shows ranging from a know-it-all nerd-off (um, actually) to both musical (play it by ear) and mostly non-musical (make some noise) improv challenges to tabletop roleplaying games (dimension 20). and don’t forget game changer, the show where the host and ceo tortures his friends slash employees in new ways every episode! plus so much more. there is SO MUCH quality, funny content on dropout, and they are constantly churning it out as well. you will come to know and love the cast members, who clearly love their jobs (mostly). you get behind-the-scenes content. they support password sharing, although you’ll probably realize pretty quickly that you genuinely want to support them if you’re able. you will laugh uproariously and discover your new favorite shows. please get this app. the only people to whom i do not recommend it are republicans, homophobes, and people without a sense of fun and whimsy.
