1. 5/5Great for Learning and Organizing!

   I have always been a huge enjoyer of music especially in analog format. My mom lent me my first ever cassette and from there on out, I felt in love with the quality and depth of analog formats. My dad also moonlights as a sound engineer so I learned a lot about qualities of analog versus digital. I myself am a musician and take influences from musicians across genres. That said, over the years, I have accrued a collection that is a little too large to not catalog. My mother and I have a joint collection of cassettes and LPs. But I have a collection of my own stuff that she wouldn’t enjoy. After a while, I knew it was time I organize myself so I could easily recall information about my albums and which I had so that I don’t double collect if I don’t want to. Along the way, I started learning a lot about pressings and nomenclature regarding albums, particularly LPs. I’m now very into collecting older issues (if not first issues) and learning more about the qualities of a particular pressing of a record. Additionally, I take huge advantage of the ‘notes’ section of Discogs. I usually quickly jot down information about my specific pressings such as, “DSOTM 1975 Reissue w/ original posters” or “First US pressing Sgt. Pepper’s w/ original insert” or even just “2016 Remaster” on something I don’t much care for in terms of collectibility. Some other good features include a rough low, mid, and high estimate of your collection as well as a large (surpassing eBay), trustworthy market to buy specific pressings of records, cassettes, CDs or whatever you want. Discogs puts the fun back into record collecting and gives you the tools to learn more about your records so that you can show off to your friends! Lol if nothing else, use Discogs to buy records directly from the seller rather than a lame remaster from Target which lacks the depth and quality you should be purchasing vinyl for anyway. Great app!

2. 3/5Try Again Try Again Try Again

   I get this bug every day, app crashes as I’m using it and I have to click try again like 6 times and then it’s fine. Been this way forever, I often get annoyed and just switch to web page instead. Also when viewing credits for an album, the background will be white and text will also be white, this is a constant. You can only see artist photos and you can’t read anything. Would also like to be able to edit list items on the app, I do this quite a lot and need to utilize the web page for it instead. It would be nice to be able to look at photos of an album properly too, they don’t usually work for me. It will often freeze and not let you scroll through all the images, so again i have to utilize the web page instead. This app logs me out constantly too, what’s up with that? Edit I can no longer update info on condition in the notes section. Too glitchy and unpredictable, impossible to use. Edit: all previous issues still + app keeps on telling me my collection is empty, and loading times are nuts. Often times a search won’t finish, but if I switch to another app and switch back it will load. How stupid Edit: yeesh app logs me out nearly every day now, do you really not want me using Discogs? LOL

   eBay is the Netherworld of record collecting, Discogs is the Underworld. If you are familiar with Clive Barker’s “Cabal” or the film adaption “Night Breed” the creatures that inhabited that cursed place are relative to the sellers who are cast away from eBay, only to mislead, and be totally sketch on Discogs. Oh, the app, it’s so counterintuitive, I feel like I’m being gaslit by my ex every time I’m operating it. Also, it kicks you off constantly to go through a barrage of “We Use Cookies” prompts. Discogs, it is 2021 maybe update your game, so a seller can post a photo of the record they are selling? How about not having 20 pages created by 20 people for the same record. Seriously though, I’ve had a few good experiences on Discogs and about 50 terrible ones. Just a shout out to everyone. Record grading isn’t subjective, there is a right way to ship and a wrong way. Stop using “Mint” we don’t believe you. Learn how to note things like edge warps. Don’t get offended if we want to see the record before we buy it. We all know you ripped some grandma off to have it in stock in the first place. So if you pay .10 cents and we are paying $15, be pleasant. Show me a person selling a NM- 45 with hairline marks and a sticker on the label, and I’ll show you a liar. Discogs is only good to reference matrix number and if you’re lucky, you’ll find a decent seller who isn’t cross-listing. A final note, people who charge $5.00 for Media Mail or a $1.00 extra for each additional record, are con artists.

4. 3/5Discogs great except for selling

   I have been a Discogs member for many years and have always tried to use it to keep inventory and recently became a seller. Customer wrote a review that he told me he did not mean to say the things he said, and because I was out of town I could not ship it within two days and get back to him at a decent time. I shipped it two days later, but did not get back to him and he said that I did not get back to him at a decent amount of time and has since then not allowed me to sell. Because of this, I am unable to sell and as soon as another platform becomes available, I will be leaving Discogs. My side of the story was not even asked, so they took one bad review and cut me off from selling on Discogs, which is unacceptable without asking me first about what happened. I cannot wait for a new platform to come out as Discogs has been losing money as I have sold a lot of albums on eBay this past year and a half. Just a suggestion that you will ask your Discogs people their side of the story before you cut them off. As I have not been able to get it to work ever since. eBay loves the money I have made them by the way. Mitch Henderson.

   I’m sorry my father is not here to see this. He was a real old-time, DJ, whose spun live records next to Alan Freed in Cleveland Ohio in the early days of rock ‘n’ roll back in the early 50s. There was no way to know back then that today these vinyl records would be collectibles. Fortunately, I kept most of my records from the late 60s and early 70s and now I have a wonderful way to do an inventory. It’s been a lot of fun and I look forward to adding more to my collection now because it makes it a lot easier to search for those records that are hard to find. Back in 1980 I lost 150 vinyl albums to a flash flood that came through the townhouse. I have a little over 200 that survived. I lived in a townhouse at that time we managed to run them upstairs to the second floor, but some of them didn’t make it there in time. I’m slowly remembering what records were lost. I am trying to gradually replace them. Kudos to everyone here !!! Rock on!!
