1. 5/5Saved me a lot of $$$ on design

   While looking to hire a social media graphic designer for my Etsy shop, someone recommended I try this app. I use the pre-made templates all the time now to create content for my social accounts. Not only did I end up not having to hire a part-time designer to create my visuals, I'm actually having a lot of fun coming up with the designs myself using the app. There is so much to love. I've been getting tired of all apps switching to a subscription model, but in this case, it actually has saved me money. I would like to request, however, a landscape option for iPad. That's my only grievance with the app as I use a smart keyboard with my iPad. Anyways, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the development team.

2. 1/5Granted i was in it purely for entertainment, but boy. Really disappointing.

   DESIGN LAB APP STORE REVIEW I’m merely an amateur/hobbyist/graphic design enthusiast, so this is not angrily precise criticism shaped by years of experience and informed by the naturally superior insight of a seasoned expert. HOWEVER.....I spent about two hours on this thing, just killing time, on a simple project...despite long lags and sluggish, frustrating editing features. AND THEN, as to REWARD me for my patience and enduring ingenuity (thankfully AFTER exporting my “finished” draft to photos), with ONLY ONE OR TWO SCREEN TAPS—-purely just for the sake of exploring the app—DELETED the product of TWO HOURS’ WORK. Good luck navigating the impossibly gaunt usability of this app. Granted i was in it purely for entertainment, but boy. Really disappointing. It was just WAY TOO EASY to F-up using this app. DO NOT be fooled by the “history” tab. It’s an UNDO TREE. As is the case with time travel, If you touch any action on the list (mind you WITHOUT ANY warning), your work will turn into a pumpkin, i.e. will return to whatever phase of development it was in at the time the action item you deleted was created—even if you (I) did it by accident. My impression is that this app does not support NON DESTRUCTIVE EDITING. Which— I mean, come on. I STRONGLY SUPPORT NON-DESTRUCTIVE EDITING.

3. 4/5This app requires heavy lifting that is even too much for the iPad Pro Gen1

   Ever wonder why their is no vector app on a professional level on the iPad Pro that can replace adobe illustrator? Or ever wonder why Adobe hasn’t stepped in yet with a serious drawing app? Remember when the iPad Pro first came out and people were up in arms about whether it was worthy of the title? Well, this app tells you a lot about why. As awesome as it is, the iPad Pro just can’t handle the heavy lifting this app demands. Sure it is useable but it can be laggy, it can be slow, and it can crash. For now I’m uninstalling it, I’ll revisit it later when I have a new iPad Pro. I give these developers credit for taking on such a huge task to create this app especially since it is only a few years away from Apple creating a real iPad Pro that can handle an adobe port and that is when adobe steps in to scoop up all the users from other apps, unfortunately leaving hard working developers at a loss of revenue

   The first editing app I fell in love was Design lab (at the time it was called piclab). At first I had the free version but I loved it so much that I payed the full version (This was the first time I ever payed for an app). It was the best. It had all I needed and it was really easy to use. As the years passed I stopped using the app as much except for when I had to do a project every now and then. Still, it was my favourite app. Not anymore. Today I decided to use it again, but I realised something was different. First, it said I needed to delete some of my projects if I wanted to start a new one. It said that unless I get the pro version I could only have 8 projects in my gallery (that made no sense as before I had around 20 projects in my gallery) (Imagine how many projects i had to delete). Then I came to see the fonts available were a lot less than what I used to have. Also some of the artwork I used to have was gone. Turns out i don’t have the “pro” version (before there was no such thing). This why this bothers me: previously I payed for the full version and now they are asking me to pay again. Maybe it isn’t a big deal because it’s not like the app was super expensive ( I think it was just two dollars), but if you make someone pay for something you shouldn’t make them pay for it again. Sure, if there are updates and new features then I understand that maybe a payment is required for those who want to use those new things, but taking out features that SOMEONE ALREADY PAYED FOR (like having as many projects in your gallery or having access to certain fonts) and asking them to PAY FOR IT AGAIN is unacceptable. The only reason why am not deleting the app right now is because it’s the app I used in 8th grade, and I have a lot of projects I made using this app. But if things don’t improve I guess I’ll just move on to a new one. I want the things I payed for back.

5. 5/5Best in its Class

   DesignLab is quite simply the best app in its class, and I’ve tried them all. I’ll list all of the many wonderful positives of the app, and also the few negatives that I am hoping the developers will address in a future update. First off, the premade templates are incredibly well designed. Similar apps (that are often more costly) don’t even come close. Kudos to the DesignLab design team as they have a tremendous eye for good design. The fact that new templates are added everyday is a great feature as well. I enjoy opening the app during holidays and unique days to find festive templates to commemorate the occasion. Second, all of the tools and features are really easy to use. Some of these are relatively complex and the app makes it so that even a beginner would have no trouble at all. The ability to install my own fonts is great. I have a few go-to fonts for my small business so it’s fantastic to be able to keep my branding consistent when using the app. Furthermore, the gigantic library of free stock photos comes in extremely handy when creating marketing collateral. A few things I would like to mention that I hope the developers address in a coming update: The text curve tool is something kind of clunky. It takes some messing around to get the desired effect, and I think this can be smoother. Also, the color gradient tool sometimes get’s hidden behind the keyboard which can be frustrating. I’m assuming, and hoping that this is an easy fix. Overall, this app deserves 5 glowing stars, and has made social media marketing easy and fun for my small business. The free version of the app is better than most paid apps, (I used it for months before deciding to upgrade to PRO), and the $5 a month for the PRO subscription is seriously nothing for the value I get in return. Great app, and many thanks for creating it.
