1. 1/5I am frustrated with this app

   I am a 16 year old male and a native Iowan who wants to know some of the big picture of what is happening in the state. As far as I knew this was the most influential newspaper in the area and the most likely to give me some of the information I was looking for in the format I was looking for. The problem is that you have to purchase a subscription to read most of the articles which requires you to be an adult or at least agree you are one. This is a major roadblock in me actually using the app, and I am very frustrated about it as I get a free subscription to the New York Times. As such I can’t give it above the lowest rating because I don’t even get a chance to really read most of the content because I am not allowed to read it.

2. 1/5Could be worse

   I use an iPad to read the Des Moines Register…at least I try. I/we’ve subscribed to the paper more than 30 years continuously. I understand the need to control cost and compete with other digital media for breaking news. That’s not why I subscribe. I want to read the paper. The app is terrible. The zoom feature seems to change with weather. Sometimes single or double tap, then reset the zoom only to endure the pop up ad again. Currently can not load paper. Probably have uninstall and reinstall app. Pushing digital access with a crappy app seems like a poor business model.

3. 2/5Often something awry

   Either the Register is trying to push subscribers to the print format (a lost cause BTW) or they just haven’t invested in an appropriate platform. It seems as though there is continually something wrong with the electronic version of the paper. It won’t open. The page by page version is inaccessible. The current edition doesn’t open. It’s just irritating. We pay for the paper and honestly, something seems to often jump up and get in the way. I’m considering canceling and subscribing to The NY Times. Has to be better than this. I recommend that you don’t waste your money.

4. 1/5DM Register new app for subscribers

   This app ,which replaced the old “Print Edition”, is just awful. Most of the time it doesn’t load properly, doesn’t allow you to smoothly scroll through content, and is so skittish it changes from print view to paragraph form if you barely touch the screen when attempting to read an article. The blue arrows at the side of the page mask some of the text and scrolling left and then right to try to complete reading the article is cumbersome …at best. We have been Register subscribers since the 1960s. Yes, that makes us seniors. But we are both technologically literate. I hope your team is working on improving this app because in its current iteration it is terrible.

5. 5/5Love the paper, not Billing dept

   I have had to have my credit card number changed 3 times in the past year due to fraud. I love that my credit union is excellent in helping me when this happens. Unfortunately the only problem I continually have is after multiple phone calls, chats, emails, to the DM Register who just can’t figure out how to change my credit card information, even after MULTIPLE times I have given my NEW credit card information. I don’t have this problem with any other business. DO BETTER.
