  1. 5/5Grateful

I am so grateful for this app! Thank you to all of the creators. I quit using social media consistently about 5 years ago. I’m sure it is great for so many people, but I became compelled to check my likes and comments multiple times a day. It wasn’t good for me. Day one is everything I enjoyed about social media, without any of the energy I spent thinking about the reaction of others. Basically just keeping track of the little and big things in life that are meaningful to me. You can add details, photos, web links, music. Honestly, I haven’t even taken advantage of all that is available. And editing is such a breeze. I’ve kept paper journals in the past and making changes, or correcting mistakes is frustrating. This app solves that problem. Okay, I could go on and on but won’t. But one last thing I am so excited for is being able to print your journal through the app. I’m working on a second journal from a little camping road trip I did last year. I kept notes in a notebook and photos on my phone, but it felt overwhelming trying to figure out how to organize them into some kind of scrapbook. With DayOne I just entered all of the pictures I had, which automatically divided by date, and now I’ve been going back, adding text from my notes into each corresponding dated entry. You can preview your book before printing. It’s great being able to have multiple journals at once. I better call this review right now! It’s getting long winded, but very sincere! First time I’ve ever left an app review!

  2. 5/5Life‘s moments, recorded well.

I saw a video where a photographer was taking two seconds out of each day for a whole year and put it together in a few minutes of a movie. The images went flashing by in high speed, but your minds eye could capture the moment, and it was a memory brought forward. Fascinating how a short movie was able to remind you of the whole year. I was all excited and thought I needed to do this however, that’s a lot of editing! So I found this app and decided that using the dictation system on the iPhone, and this app, I would start to record, the salient features of each day. I felt like life is going by too fast so I needed to record it. That was in 2019. Boy was I right because since then we’ve had multiple years of Covid, death in the family, issues at work and a national awards that my daughter got, all recorded in it in this app. After losing my wife, I’m so glad I have images and jokes and things to remember her by. I started recording 4 years before her death and now wish I had done this at the beginning. The app works flawlessly and I will continue to do so. I record a little something and some photo of each day. The stuff I want to remember and even the stuff I want to forget because I don’t wanna do that again! I finally printed out five books by now, so I have them on paper on my shelf. Time is your most valuable asset and we don’t record the events very well, thinking that will remember it all. Looking back at the books I can tell you those books are priceless. Thank you Day One.

  3. 5/5I absolutely love it so far!

I have tried to have a journal many times throughout my life and the one reason I kept failing at it was because it wasn’t fun. I looked at things like my handwriting and thought no one could read this even if they wanted to! I also didn’t like that if by chance the could read my handwriting they would be totally invading my privacy because anyone can open a notebook if they find it under your mattress. I also couldn’t add photos to it unless I printed them out and tapped them in. And my biggest problem of all was how tired my hand would get writing and how long it took (I have a lot to say). This app has solved all those issues! Typing everything insures that it is legible, the passcode options keeps it safe and private while the sync option ensures everything is backed up and can be accessed from more than one device which is super handy when you don’t want to lug your iPad around but you always have your phone! You can add photos to every entry very easily and typing is just so much faster and easier on the hands! And as an extra bonus, if I ever wanted to have a physical version of a journal I could get one with a cover designed by me for a very reasonable price! I went and bought myself a Bluetooth keyboard and every night I sit down and just type a little something and it’s very therapeutic. It really helps declutter your head and process your day and feelings. I would absolutely recommend this app to anyone who likes to journal or is thinking about starting.

  4. 5/5PDF format has improved- Thank you!

THANK YOU for continuing to improve the PDF format! Just as I was about to give up and look for a journaling method elsewhere, the PDF format was improved and now there are multiple pictures per page, and the flow and format is a lot nicer. I also like that the text is larger and one page can even fit up to 9 pictures. It still isn’t perfect. If I could give the suggestion to make the date and time font darker and maybe a little bigger, it would be near to perfect. That is hardly visible, especially once printed out. But the picture flow has dramatically improved, and I applaud you! I am fine paying a subscription as long as these updates are being made, because I appreciate the continuous work to improve the customer’s experience. So far, to the best of my knowledge, these improvements haven’t been made to the book printing, but I assume they are working on that as well. Thank you and please, for your subscribers, continue with these improvements! It’s the only thing that keeps me hanging on to this app because a physical, printed copy is so important to me, and though I love everything else about the app digitally, I would be forced to look elsewhere if I wasn’t satisfied with the printing (via book or PDF). I’m sure I’m not the only customer who feels this way. Thank you for hearing me out!

  5. 5/5Day One has come a long way!

I have been using Day One for about 4 years now. I have always kept a journal since I was a kid but I wanted something password protected to use on my MacBook. When I first started using the Day One, it was limited and the phone app was incredibly buggy especially on iPhone. Over the years the developers have absolutely refined Day One into one of the best apps you can invest in on the App Store. I truly enjoy looking back over the years to see how far I have come. I mainly use this app as a “mind dump” whenever I feel overwhelmed and to record my dreams. Over time it has expanded into several different journals. I’m just now starting to use it to record smaller and simpler thoughts throughout the day to replace social media and it’s doing wonders for my mental health. Since it’s much more stable and reliable on iPhone it’s been a joy to use on-the-go. We all have those thoughts we just want to get out and social media isn’t always the place for that. Day One is a perfect judge-free zone where I won’t look back on a post 5 years later and feel deep regret for making that thought public. I did try out Day One Premium for 1 year because I wanted to use the video feature. I could only record a couple of minutes at a time and I didn’t end up using it as much as I thought I would. I didn’t use any of the other features in that year so I ended up reverting back to the basic package, but I’m sure those extra features will be useful for others!
