  1. 3/5A nice way to make a little extra money….but

I am a content creator, so CrowdRiff is a great way to make a little extra money using skills I already have. And it’s honestly a relief not to have to edit or post anything. (I waited to write this until after successfully getting paid for 3 jobs) But I have some complaints. - the app has some bugs. Occasionally issues uploading. And one time we accepted a job that was already taken. Hopefully new updates fix this. - Some job requests have pretty unrealistic criteria. Like suggesting you “bring a friend” to some paid experiences, but everything you spend to accomplish the jobs takes away from your overall profit. It’s just not realistic to expect friends to “tag along” while you scrap for a couple hundred dollars. - they also sometimes say “drone footage allowed” like honey, drones are expensive, you ain’t paying enough for that. Not even to mention that technically any commercial drone work you do legally requires a Part 107 license ($). But most people probably ignore this FAA law. - and obviously whatever travel costs you incur take away from your net profit. So realistically you can only be profitable doing jobs near you. So I wish they had many more opportunities. I am fully nomadic and can travel for some of these. But at least around Colorado, there’s only a handful in all the surrounding states combined. (FWIW, we noticed there are lots more in the Midwest) So overall, it’s a nice way to make some extra money if you have the skills. And I appreciate that CrowdRiff finds these clients for us (wish there was more!) But I hope they could be more realistic about payouts when asking for extras, like friends included, drone footage, etc.

  2. 4/5Pros and cons but worth it

I see a lot of reviews having bad experiences, and I do see the validity in them. I am a full time creator so side quest opportunities like this are pretty cool. I have been able to take on jobs in my state, as well as another state and travel. I am not fond of the fact that you have to front the costs typically for whatever the assignment is, I think the payout should actually be what you take home. Sometimes they can be picky about the content pieces, but honestly if you make quality content, and abide by the guidelines they provide, or ask questions when it’s not clear, it’s a pretty smooth and super easy side-gig.

  3. 1/5Save yourself

I have done multiple assignments for them. There are more cons than pros. I have been payed for the assignments I’ve done, but there’s a huge lack of transparency and clear communication, it makes the process frustrating. If you’re a creator, try your best to just work with the tourism boards directly. Trust me on this! Also they told me I couldn’t create content for a specific tourism board because they wanted to see “other creators” but when they specifically needed black history month content, they wanted me to do it. 🚩

  4. 1/5Creators Beware

Warning Creators: I lost $1,000 because my assignments were not approved. The reason given was that my work ‘didn’t fit their aesthetic,’ which feels like discrimination against non-American creators. I invested significant time and money without receiving any compensation. DO NOT work with them, very passive aggressive and arrogance Company.

  5. 1/5Beware

You’ll spend money just to earn money, and most times it’s not the return. They won’t provide full details on the shotlist and then say it’s not good enough when you submit. Don’t waste your time.
