5/5Life changing App
This has been by far the best App I have downloaded. It has enhanced my life and taught me things about the world and life itself. The people I meet seem to have very little expectations of a host and their travels other than experiencing someone and something new. I can’t tell you how refreshing that is or how it has helped me shift my consciousness to be grateful and just be in the moment. I’ve learned a lot from my guests and am just so thankful for all the experiences I have been lucky to share. I also love that I’ve been able to expose my children to a world and perspective outside of our own. The ONLY downside (and I caution all single women who host or travel) is hosting single men for safety reasons and or just plain overt sexual attempts. Please read reviews of single male guests and make sure they have at least 5. I had a couple of very uncomfortable experiences and now know to only accept men with at least 5 reviews. Other than that this App is amazing and my life is better for it.

4/5App is a must for budget travelers
A week ago when i began my journey, I couldn’t believe i was opening up my wallet for my already too expensive 3-month long travel plans, the costs of almost none of which had yet hit my bank account. I also couldnt believe, as a 20-something female, that i was considering crashing on people’s couches to save a few bucks. One week in, literally, one week, and i have not a clue how much i paid to verify my account - whatever it was, it’s worth its weight in gold. Ive met numerous friends organically in the three cities i’ve visited these last 8 days, but the real connections were made with other open-minded surfers through this app. Ive spent zero dollars on lodging, got local tips on great places to eat for cheap, tourist traps to avoid, and began networking with friends of friends across the plethora of other cities/countrysides i plan to visit over the course of the next few months. I’m completely rejuvenated in life and inspired to continue budget traveling for as long as i can. Its crazy to think how new social media/app networking is in the scheme of how long humans have travelled. You guys are just scratching the surface and I’m so excited to be here for the journey. 4 stars instead of 5 simply, because it still needs to be a little more user friendly. It’s hard to see when people reply directly to you in hangouts. Not super navigable... a few interface changes in a few more updates and this thing will be ready to rock. Love you guys and thanks for helping me see the world 🙌🏼😭☮️🌏

1/5They took money from me only to suspend my account for other people’s behavior
We need a better alternative. I was forced to pay $3 every month to be able to use the application but that’s not the main problem. I largely enjoyed using the application because I met many people from all over the world who I have become friends with and had good experiences with. But the administrators of the application have a very poor management style. I once hosted a guy at my house who ended up causing many problems, including stealing my keys. I made sure to complain to the CS team about this, and provided videos. All they did was suspend his account for a week. There were also multiple instances of people using the application to sexually harass people including myself. The application allows anyone to block you for any reason and with no follow-up. That’s not what’s problematic. What’s problematic is that after taking your money, the team suspends your account if “too many people” block you. There are people with multiple accounts who have blocked me because they either wanted to cause trouble at my house or sexually harass me. It’s common for people to abuse the block function. But the CS team refused to investigate these blocks and just suspended my account with no details. I have invested in my account and built up over the years, and it’s sad to see how one can get victimized like that.

1/5Verification scam $$
I’ve used the app 3 years ago and on my recent travel I decided to download it again. I was updating my profile & was prompted that I would have a higher chance of getting approved if I verified my account. They asked for a credit card to verify my account but did not indicate that a charge was to be made or how entering my cc details would result in a $60 charge! I entered my cc details thinking that it was just to verify that I am who I say I am regarding my name etc. Returning home from my holiday I received an email stating that I have been charged $60!!! I emailed their customer support stating my situation - I was unaware of the charge, amount, & ultimately being mislead. Jenny a customer service agent said they do not refund outside of the 7 day window (mind you I was only 2 days outside of the 7 day window) and asked for them to make an exception and she insisted that a refund cannot be processed. Very upsetting considering that I didn’t end up using the app. Terrible customer service! Absolutely Money hungry! *UPDATE* - stop responding to reviews advising them to contact customer service when you know very well your customer service agents will refuse to help out especially regarding any sort of refund. If you actually read my review you would see that I WANT A REFUND! & if you were genuine with helping me out you would provide a specific email and a claim number to ensure that I indeed get my refund!!

1/5Redesign ruined hosting
Why is a paid app harder to use after a redesign than it was before? I've been an active Couchsurfing host for about six years, and I've hosted more than fifty travelers. The redesign has made the app far more tedious, especially for hosts. Searching for travelers coming to my city is now disorganized, with inconsistent travel-date formatting and no clear chronological order. The flow takes more clicks, adds unnecessary loading screens, and buries key information. Traveler photos are constantly blocked by a photo overlay that can't be moved, and the dark visual design makes profiles even harder to scan, because the details that matter no longer stand out. I gave this feedback shortly after launch. It was never addressed. I now open the app less and offer to host less, because using it is so frustrating. Patrick Dugan owns this. Under his leadership, Couchsurfing has shown weak product vision, poor execution, and a long-running failure to fix the core problems active hosts and travelers actually live with. He shipped a redesign full of obvious bugs, let the one-star reviews pile up, and still has not meaningfully engaged with the people paying for it. So what is the priority here? If it is not a stable, usable product and a real response to paying customers after a botched redesign, what is your team actually doing? I've canceled my subscription. I'm tired of paying a company that takes my money and ships a worse product every year. If you're weighing whether to subscribe or renew, ask yourself whether this team has earned it. Until the core host and traveler workflows are fixed, I can't recommend giving Couchsurfing another dollar.

7.2.4
Ever stumble across something that felt a little too personal? We patched up a glitch that was accidentally showing private feedback where it didn't belong—your candid comments are safe and sound again. We also tidied up event listings so that titles and details on events with white cover images are crisp and easy to read. Happy exploring!

Ever come back to the app and wonder if you're looking at stale info? Not anymore! Profiles, community posts, and couch stay details now refresh automatically when you return from the background, so you're always seeing the latest and greatest. We also squashed a few sneaky bugs along the way: the "Hosted n travelers" count on profile preview cards is back to showing the right number, the private feedback form now looks and behaves exactly as it should! Oh, and if you were ever tapped to upgrade on an Apple device, that link now takes you exactly where it should. Smooth travels ahead!

Getting started on Couchsurfing just got a whole lot friendlier! Photo upload is now optional during onboarding, with a handy fallback if anything goes wrong, so nothing stands between you and your first adventure. Gmail users will love the new Google sign-in shortcut, and if you ever need a hand, there's a fresh support form right on the login screen. We've also been busy making the rest of the app feel smoother everywhere you roam. Chat is more reliable than ever, with better search, fixed direct message routing, and the ability to report chat requests that don't feel right. Profile pages got some love too, squashing a bug that duplicated references and closing a sneaky glitch that could wipe your entire photo gallery. Host search results are more accurate, maps and navigation behave themselves on mobile, and several Android crashes have been shown the door. Happy travels!

7.2.8
Ready to hit the road with a smoother experience? This update brings some great improvements to keep your Couchsurfing journey safe and seamless. Blocked users can no longer view or leave references on your profile, and a handful of pesky counter and summary glitches on profiles and friend requests have been squashed. Friend requests now sort newest-first by default, so you'll always see the freshest connections up top. We've also added a handy "Get Verified" option right in Settings near Manage Subscriptions, making it easier than ever to build trust with the community. On the events and performance side of things, member-created Events sport a refreshed tag style so you can instantly tell them apart from curated ones, and if you're an organizer, your event tools are now just a tap away directly from Feed cards. A new low-battery mode lets you disable blur effects to save power when you're out exploring and running low. We've also fixed incorrect step counts in the Profile Completeness drawer, resolved a connectivity bug that caused usernames to vanish on relaunch, corrected the payment flow during Onboarding, and paused animations on the paywall and login screens to keep things snappy. Adventure awaits—go explore!
