1. 1/5New app version is a mess

   This CNN app was much better prior to it’s major makeover that occurred a few months ago, which has too many disjunct sections mixed with unrelated sections of articles & underscored ads. -It’s hard to know which articles are news and which are ads disguised to be news. Also, lots of articles aren’t being removed daily, making it feel like we’re reading days old topics. Please switch back to the way CNN’s app used to be where readers could scroll down and know distinctly each section had related topics and were current. It was closer to scrolling down on Facebook with being able to see today’s headline stories. This new version is a mess. It’s confusing, frustrating and wants readers to weed through the massive amount of junk on the “Top News” page because it’s wants everything to be newsworthy. It’s makes the reader have to work to filter through garbage just to get one or two real current headline stories. Remove the advertisement stories posed as newsworthy headlines. Stop with postings of any and everything on that page in particular as it takes away from what’s really news and what’s just advertisements which has created a lack of credibility of what you’re feeding your audience. Please go back to the old app’s version where top news page was primarily today’s headline stories and the ads were more distinct so readers could clearly avoid clicking on them.

   CNN has some timely, serious reporting, But also a lot of inconsequential fluff. Limited real estate is often dedicated to multiple stories covering insignificant aspects of some event, often no more than a simple celebrity snafu. If something mildly weird happened somewhere in the world, it is sure to find his way to this app. And, while I am no Trump fan, I get the feeling that I am inside my own echo chamber while reading CNN, because as much as I appreciate reading Articles detailing our president’s incompetence, I suspect he and his administration must occasionally do something right – – but you would never know by reading CNN. The most annoying aspect of CNN is its use of videos. A video on CNN is no more than a vehicle for presenting the customer with an advertisement they would rather not see. Accordingly, CNN uses videos where a written report would do just as well, if not better. CNN also attaches videos to stories, leading you to believe the video somehow relates to the story in a material way, when in fact the video has only the most tangential relationship to the subject of the article. At other times, the video simply does not play! Often, what appears to be the opening scene or frame of the video, Which entices you to actually watch the video, disappears when you open the video and discover that the scene or frame that caused you to open it cannot be found within the video, which is often completely unrelated. All that said, some of CNN is content is timely and good. I just wish CNN were a more reliable source of substantive news and did not resort to click bait and similar chicanery to get you to watch advertisements you would rather not see.

3. 2/5Decent App, Not Worth Subscription

   I think the CNN app was pretty good for general major news stories. With some UI changes it did begin to get more cluttered, but nothing overwhelming. Then many of the news stories started requiring a subscription to read or even look at the background of a topic they were referring to. Also I think reorganizing some of the topics would be necessary. As a tech person, I absolutely don’t care about CNN’s take on various new products. I’ll go to one of the many dedicated sites that specialize in that, provide benchmarks, etc. Not some young kids quick take on what they thought was “neat” in a product. Again all these were annoyances but no reason to completely stop using it. Now they introduced subscription required for everything. Now that’s a joke. CNN is the vanilla news equivalent, don’t expect anything super in-depth but a general overview. There are so many other unbiased (not saying that CNN is, they seem rather neutral), that provide higher quality news reporting for free. I think CNN overestimated itself as a news outlet. They are good for high level overviews of major stories. Every flavor of monetization of their coverage has failed in the past you would think they would learn by now.

4. 1/5Ok app, horrendous content.

   I watched a lot of CNN back in the 90's (think Menendez brothers trial, OJ in the bronco, OJ trial era) until I spent overseas. After that, I got into the habit of reading weekly magazines and daily broadsheets (WSJ, IBD, NY Times, the Economist, Forbes, Newsweek, & local newspaper). I hadn't had anything to do with CNN in nearly 20 years due to nothing more than a change in habits. After all of the hubbub about news this past year, I thought I would look into CNN to see for myself. I know 20 years is a long time but not only has CNN changed but I feel like they are not even living in the same country let alone the same reality. I read what are commonly considered conservative and liberal news. Everyone has a point of view and there is nothing wrong with reading an opposing viewpoint, in fact it's very healthy to do so. But CNN is not just coming from a certain viewpoint, it is extremely agenda driven. Maybe their viewership shares their extreme viewpoint, or are so indoctrinated by it to have become blind to the extreme slant. But to someone like me immersed in news of various politics and viewpoints, their sheen of objectivity is completely transparent and I see them as a pure organ of propaganda. They are the worst propaganda organizations station since William Randolph Hearst or more recently, Pravda. Like I said, the country they live in is different from the one I know and love. I haven't been witness to such unmitigated, unapologetic hatred by anyone, for anyone since Air America Radio went out if business. No thanks CNN.

   Since President Trump has taken office CNN and other news sources have undermined everything he has tried to do. When past presidents have attempted the same things CNN posted favorable coverage. Has anyone thought about the country that our president represents and what he could accomplish if he had some support. An example of this: in the past leaders of North Korea have made all kinds of threats and violence to the US and other countries and when that occurred our presidents always tried to pacify them with talk and many times giving in to their demands or at least partially. None of that worked period. So now we have a new president with new ideas, one that was elected to run the country. And what happens does he get support, no just the opposite. Federal judges wanting to show off stop him cold , news media publish their BS polls that I think they get out of their butts. When he attempts to stop or scare Kim when Kim threatens us with nukes he reminds him that we also have nukes , but then what happens while Kim is shaking with the thought of losing his position in life: a bunch of elected officials and again the news media all quickly announce that president Trump doesn’t have the power to make a first strike or use our nuclear weapons. Wow way to go I’m sure Kim in North Korea was able to breathe normal again with that bit of good news. Wake up America if president Trump loses the country loses. United we stand and divided we fall. Old news, yes but we better wake up or we might just wake up to a whole new world, one that we may not like.

   I have been a long time user of the CNN app until today. There are very few articles available to read without a subscription. I have since deleted the app & changed my review from several years ago from a 5 star to a 1 star. MS Now is not charging me to read any articles. That will now be my go to source for news. Good bye CNN.
