1. 5/5Excellent app!

   I’ve been using the Pro version in Venice and find it excellent. It’s very helpful in navigating complicated streets, I’m really depending on it here. I like that it also shows landmarks. The nap can expand to show a lot of detail and contract to get a wider view. The arrow on the blue dot showing my location even turns as I change the way I’m facing, even if I’m not moving, a helpful feature in general, also when you have no idea which way you’re headed. The map visually is very clear and shows a lot of tiny streets, seems very accurate. It also followed my journey very well on a long boat ride to an island, helped me to identify other islands along the way and to know when I had reached my stop. For me, it’s very useful and well worth the price!

2. 3/5Not everything it was in the past.

   I loved this app so much I purchased the Pro version. I’m an international pilot for a major airline and travel the world. I’m easily responsible for hundreds of subscribers as I have recommended it to anyone I flew with plus friends and family traveling abroad. It helped me pass along favorite, little known sight seeing spots and restaurants I had discovered on my many layovers. In Paris alone I had dropped over 100 “stars”. Then one day that all ended. Rumor has it that the original developer sold the product and did not transfer the database. For whatever reason, my stars were gone. I texted the managers but got no reply. I’m sure they were swamped with tons of the same question. I loved the app so much I gave them a pass. I started to rebuild my database of stars. Last month an iOS update “bricked” my iPhone XS. As I’m recovering my apps on my new iPhone 14, I download my CityMaps2Go app and once again my newly added stars are gone. If you’re looking for a trustworthy app that you can return to time after time, this is not the one for you. If you’re looking for something in the here and now, get from point A to point B it’s great (hence the 3 stars). **If, on your trip you drop a lot of location markers (stars), I recommend taking a screenshot just in case…..

3. 2/5No longer being updated? Not working well anymore…

   I’ve been a CityMaps2Go user for almost 5 years now, I travel for work a lot and it’s been invaluable to save places I’ve been or want to go. However, CityMaps2Go doesn't seem to be updating, in the older pro version I previously bought when Ulmon was an independent company and now in this newer version and places that do show up on map are no longer selectable. For example, a friend just recommended a pub in Dublin. Searching by name in CityMaps came back with nothing, I had to Google Maps the address and then search by address in city maps. The pub shows by name on the map in CityMaps2Go when searching by address, but I am no longer able to tap on the name, and save a place like previous versions, I have to create a saved place, type in pub name, but can no longer save the address so to be useable to get there, I’d have to go back to Google and search for the address. Also, somewhere along the line, the add a place to CityMaps2Go and reviews feature disappeared. I’m not sure now how the scores come from because I do not know how to do it anymore! As it is now, as disappointing as it is to say, it’s not worth the money. Maybe somewhere along the line my app got corrupted, but I’d skip it. Using iPhone 13 Pro.

4. 2/5I don't usually mind getting "lost" but...

   Don’t pay for this! See below this for my original review. This used to be a 4 star app. Ten years after my last review it’s still broken. 😞 I had just upgraded my phone, updated this app, and all my maps from around the world were gone! I paid for this app years ago (2005), during a trip. I was weeks away from my next and I had no maps. Very disappointed. +++ (Original review) A friend mentioned this app when I had newly arrived on a UK holiday and it made my day trips on foot so much smoother. The terrain didn't always match what I saw on paper maps but eventually I could find my blue dot on here and zoom out til I found my way again. I navigated Edinburgh and Oxford much easier. Even with local guides for Newcastle and London these maps were helpful. I would request more detailed small towns be added worldwide to make it more seamlessly connected, and the option to download by country and state (US) would greatly help. As a map lover, I found this app fun, and even open it occasionally in familiar places just to see how it functions or where my dot is!

5. 4/5Great features but I found Location services Always on

   The only gripe is that during some app/system update the Location services was reset to Always on, and without my knowledge or permission. That’s a bit shady and looking at my battery consumption it was a major drain, all without my permission or knowledge. Features are great tho. UPDATE Dec 20: according to the app developer’s response there’s no way that the app itself can reset the Location/GPS setting as Apple provide a programmatic way to do that. Assuming that’s true, then I cannot explain how Location access was set to Always on. I had not launched the app in over a year but when I looked in the System Battery section the app had somehow become the second biggest drain due to the background Location process being always on. This corresponded in time to a recent app update I received. Based on the developer this isn’t their doing so all I can explain is what I found.
