1. 5/5Guns, Germs and Steel-a fascinating tour of the development of human civilization

   After 40 years of travel and research, the author shares with us his findings and conclusions of his ambitious attempt to answer the question of why the Europeans colonized the New World rather than the New World colonizing Europe. The geography, the availability of native plants and animals, leading to agriculture and domestication, and in turn, leading to civilizations, weapons, and conquest, are examined in detail, painting a picture of how certain societies advanced while others did not. It’s an eye opening and convincing review of history and science to show how civilization evolved the way it did. On the other hand, the author asks the question whether European conquests were the result of differences in people or differences in environments. He devotes 400 pages examining the environmental differences in the continents, but less than a single page to the differences in races. He states up front that, based on his own personal experience, people of New Guinea appear to be more intelligent than Europeans. He expands this experience to assume that all people from New Guinea are at least as intelligent as Europeans, and therefore all people in the world are essentially equal in intelligence and capability to develop civilization. His evidence for environmental factors is compelling, but his assumptions about human nature, that is, his lack of evidence for human factors, leaves his conclusions in question. Overall, a fascinating read, which I recommend to students of history and the development of human civilization.

2. 5/5Good App, Great Store!

   I haven’t had any issues with the app so far. I’ve only had it for a few months and I use it once or twice a week - for context of the review. The best parts of Chirp are the prices, the availability of independent authors in an audio version, and freebie Fridays, where they have the first book of a series for free - of course that’s a hook, but it gives you a chance to find out if you like the characters, the plot line, and the author’s writing style before investing in a series you don’t care for. Typically they offer seven different genres. So there’s something for (almost) everyone. I find it rare that audiobooks published by independent and lesser known authors are carried by my library. And if they do have them, it’s not usually the full series. Annoying! I really like that Chirp provides this format for those of us who use audiobooks. I know this review is more for the store and less for the app itself, but so far I have not had any issues with the app, either. If anything changes, I will update but right now, solid full five stars for both!

3. 4/5Just finished my first book on Chirp

   What are rich time I was just privileged to spend with a profoundly knowledgeable man of God who lived a generation ago. I just finished the book how to be filled with the Holy Spirit, and was profoundly challenged by the scriptural approach taken by A.W. Tozer. I would recommend this book to any Christian who has been born again but wants to live a more deeply scriptural experience of what God has in mind for all Christians. If the reader of this is not yet a Christian… I would encourage you to read a wonderful small little book just a few chapters long… Known as the gospel of John. Remember hearing about the four Gospels at the beginning of the new testament “Matthew, Mark, Luke & John?“ Just go to John and read those few chapters and you will meet the person of Jesus Christ. I read the writings of a profoundly scholarly man who had studied all of the philosophies and all of the religions of the world… Who had come up with what he believed to be the single most important question any human being will ever ask or ask themselves for an answer to. Go to the gospel of John and ask this question “who is Jesus Christ and what am I going to do with Him? God will use that honest inquiry to miraculously change your life for eternity. Guaranteed. 4. 3/5Not very inclusive

   I thought I would try this app out but the more I look at it the more I'm seeing more female authors over male authors. To give you a gist of what I'm referring to here, I checked out the free library and the male authors shown were about 5-6. When I counted all the female authors they exceeded that number greatly, 40 female author's books were given freely but only 5-6 male authors were given out free. And there were no books I would read in this list. Mostly romance was given freely while there were very few adventure or mystery novels. The pricing seems like a no brainer for the most part, I have yet to purchase a book, let alone download any of the free stuff because nothing appeals to me. There is nothing wrong with female authors, my only complaint would be the lack of male authored novels given out as free. To me, that's not very inclusive. Also, the app redirects you to a web page to purchase the books you want. Nothing is included in the app it seems. And I am not seeing very good deals except for maybe books that are not popular. Those are the cheapest. I looked up Tom Clancy and they are full price audio books with maybe two dollars knocked off the pricing. To me, that's not a very substantial deal.

5. 5/5Best deal around!!!!

   If you love listening to audiobooks then you found the right place to do it, and certainly at the right price.! Every day new deals abound. I enjoy listening to old time radio shows, and many a day they have them on sale for two dollars or possibly three dollars when the regular price is up to $22 or more.! This makes listening to Old time radio not only a pleasure but pure joy!!! They also have other categories of books that run on sale for 30 days or more, so if you think you might enjoy a book but I’m sure? Then at least you have 30 days to go back and get it before it goes off sale. Many books run anywhere from $.99 to five dollars. At any point if you have trouble you can always email customer service, I have done this a few times and they have always been very helpful and have gotten back to me right away. At any rate to make a long story even longer if you are not using Chirp for all your audiobook needs then you are missing the boat!!!! Hurry up and climb on board.
