1. 3/5C1 for iPhone is in its infancy

   As a long time user of C1 on desktop I have welcomed the mobile version, but then the bar is high too. My scenario is shooting raw on phone and developing on phone too, as opposed to uploading to desktop. This is unfortunately not an option, as the phone app lacks important features (levels, curves, color balance and color editing, importable custom styles, masks). The very basic functions don’t work as well as on desktop (HDR, clarity), and operation is clunky (no alternating preview between prior and current state, why the import stage rather than direct access to photo library?). Currently the bar is set by Darkroom, also I recommend C1 to look at some of the tool implementations in Snapseed. I may check on this in an year or so.

2. 2/5Nearly immediately frustrating

   I can’t determine a good reason that this version is so painfully chopped down compared to its desktop counterpart. I tried on both iPhone and iPad. I’m positive an M1 iPad Pro can handle a fully fledged Capture One Pro. I was at least able to connect my Fujifilm X-T4 to the iPad, but that’s when I learned that there was no Live View. Why??? That was 80% of the reason I wanted the app in the first place. Capture One on iOS/iPadOS has been out for almost a year now; why isn’t this a feature? I’m sorry, but shooting directly to my device instead of a memory card just feels pointless. Also, why would I try to hold my camera or tripod mount it and use a very powerful and expensive iPad Pro just to hit the shutter? It couldn’t even change exposure or shutter speed settings on the fly — they would almost immediately flip back to the starting value I left them on. This app feels like it’s in an early beta stage nearly a year later, and you’re asking for money for it. I could maybe get some use out of it to do some really basic RAW processing shortly after shooting, or if I don’t want to work from my laptop I guess?

3. 5/5run-and-gun champ or for travel backup

   just wrote a really long review about why I like this app so much. but the app store just ghosted it away. bummer. I’ll write better one later, but here is my summary: This is not a replacement for Capture One Pro on a laptop, it’s a companion app. And it does it’s job really f—- well. Can it be better? Yes. It desperately need the Guides tool, especially for Live View. Keyboard shortcuts for externals keyboards are also needed. But, when you use it right, it crushes. It exports EIPs via Airdrop so smoothly. You can use it for that one location look outside the studio when on a studio job. Or for run-and-gun, or for shooting without a crew, or as backup tool while traveling or for sending a few selects during an event. Try it out for those uses and you’ll be stoked. The color tools, keystone tools, copy and paste, all work really well.

4. 5/5So, so good

   I only recently downloaded this, so I didn’t have to put up with a lot of the missing features like others did. But honestly, even with some features still missing (many more recently added like smart masking), I honestly think this is a great standalone option for people who only use an iPad. But when I get started editing on the go and get home, exporting my image with edits to my laptop with airdrop is so easy it’s almost unbelievable. Is the app perfect. No. It’s still a little laggy sometimes (M1 iPad Air) though sometimes smooth as butter. And there are a couple features missing still (I’d love the color balance tool). But honestly this is such a small nitpick I don’t even care. So worth the monthly cost. So much better than Lightroom. Thanks Capture One team!

5. 4/5Excellent for Tether - but still lots of features missing

   I have been using Capture One for iPad for almost a year now. Wireless and Wired tether with the Sony A7IV - speed is incredible, sometimes glitched when scrolling thru a lot of photos, but with each update that gets better. For client review on the location, specially places where I can’t have a laptop - like streets, lakes, pools, and others, the app is incredible, full RAWs on a big screen helps everyone on a creative team, from makeup artist, hairstyles, fashion designers and clients, make changes on the spot and that’s the main reason I got the app. I wish masking and local adjustments will make it to the app as well, pretty much can’t do any editing on it - I have to wait to transfer files to the desktop all the time. Also live preview would make the app so much better
