1. 2/5Cheap move discontinuing Calendar 5

   Giving 2 stars because the apps are indeed very well done. But discontinuing calendar 5 with the invite to upgrade to calendars is a cheap move. A way to make users that paid a fixed cost for the app switch to calendars that is subscription based. Then what did I pay for when I purchased calendars 5? To have an app that will no longer have updates and support? No thank you. I won’t switch to the subscription based, I won’t even use the 12 months free trial which are clearly a trap. A serious developer would have offered free access to calendars but perhaps with some reduced features to respect those that pay subscriptions annually. Other apps in similar situations (such as “sleep cycle” for example) did that and it was a much more respectful way to transition. I will move to another platform. UPDATE: I learned there is a free basic version of calendars (non subscription based). Yet, it doesn’t have all the features that I was enjoying (and that I paid for) in calendars 5 and it reinforces my point that it was a cheap move, since they don’t invite you to get that version when you open calendars 5. They only talk about the subscription based version, conveniently omitting that there is a free version too. Bad bad move, and I see many other users feel the same as I do.

2. 5/5Very sad to see it go

   I’ve used this app for a very long time, I think when it first came available on Apple if I’m not mistaken. I’ve referred countless friends and coworkers since the beginning, I was so impressed. Not many changes were made from the Calendar 5, but I could be missing it. I’ve come to rely on this calendar for so many things, even though I use a paper planner as well, this is my everyday go-to for bills, tasks, and the calendar. No, I no longer have the “receipt” from the Apple App Store, I don’t even think purchases are available for that long ago. I’ve tried the Google and Apple calendars, which are not user friendly, and options are limited. I do understand that nothing is free, but having paid for it once and now you want a yearly subscription, this is something I can’t afford. Until I find a better solution, this will be my favorite, but I’m moving on. UPDATE: I searched high and low for a receipt to no avail. I have been using this app for more than 12 years at least (although I’m going by the date I moved), but I know it’s been longer. For people who purchased the app long ago, keep us in the “old” version or at least offer it.

3. 5/5Taking away functionality

   27Jun2025 addendum: Changed to 5 stars. After extensive email conversations with Tech Support, this issue has been favorably resolved. My experience with Readdle customer support has always been superlative and this time was even more so given the circumstances of war in which they find themselves. *********** I've used this App and its predecessors for over a decade. My iPhone 7 is limited to iOS 15.8.3. CalendarsPro requires ≥ iOS16. Prior to the second week in June my app had the following functions available: location, rooms,attendees, video call and note. Now according to messages at the bottom of an appointment screen, I no longer have the attendee and video call functions without upgrading to Pro. But my iPhone7 cannot be upgraded to iOS16 and therefore cannot be upgraded to Pro. And apparently I'm also locked out of sharing appointments with my wife who has the same app and iPhone7. Sharing appointments is the only reason we have been using this Readdle App for a decade. Why did you TAKE AWAY functionality and require an upgrade for devices that cannot be upgraded? *****************

4. 2/5I liked it better before Google bought it.

   I loved this app until Google bought it. Now I get appts scheduled on my calendar for two-3 weeks of one single appointment. Then I have to send a response to whoever is advertising, that I’m not going. These are spam email senders whom I have never had any contact with and would block if they had ever sent anything to my email. Somehow they can still set appointments on this calendar, which never happened before Google bought it. It’s ridiculous and irritating! ! Today there were three of them, Plus a one day appointment from some spammer which I had to go into my email and block the sender to cancel the appointment that Google/the developer allow access. I would not get this app, as a new customer, if I knew this could happen. The reason I keep it is because it the record of appointments and notes that I’ve made on specific situation that I want records of historically - Much like I would a regular calendar. I used to use Franklin Planner, when I was still working and before some life altering medical events that forced me to stop working at 60. I became accustomed to keeping track of everything in my life in my calendar. Google said it has to be someone I’ve had contact with, but I guarantee that is not the case. Nobody should be able to access my calendar! Aside from that, and now charging me for the moon calendar - which was included in the original parchase, it’s a really good calendar. Im irritated that they want to charge extra if I want the moon phases. I think it’s a dirty business to sell you something and then change what that something is.

5. 5/5I love this app so much that I fought with my company...

   ...to let me download it on my work phone. Calendar preferences are uniquely personal; as a busy professional, I demand a lot from my time management software. I need to be able to see the days’ meetings in detail, but also simultaneously in week view. This is something I have long lamented about the woefully subpar iCal app: I have to click on individual days to see the events or sacrifice a more bird’s-eye view. It’s hard to fit both into one phone screen, but Calendars manages splendidly. The trick: vertical week-view lets you see the entire week + each day’s events at once. It’s a UI miracle! I’ve been using this app exclusively for years now, and it has withstood the test is time, as well as the transition from thinking I was busy in law school to actually being busy at a law firm. This app is free so you should try it and see if it meets your needs. Then, buy the pro subscription (for a measly few dollars) for full blown functionality. There are a million calendar apps out there, but none have made me send protracted emails to IT begging them to let me put it on my work phone. That’s how good it is.
