This app is a lifesaver! I made an account and set it up with PayPal. Now whenever I need a ticket, I just take out my smartphone. No need to waste time going to ticket machines, waiting in line at them, or getting out cash. The electronic ticket also shows the time left on it and all the records of your ticket purchases go on your credit card.

1/5Fined 60 eur because of this app
I habitually buy 4-ticket packs, and in the last year the transactions have gotten longer and longer (1-2 minutes of the spinner interaction - I might as well buy physical tickets) and nowadays even fail. Today I entered the train trusting that this was about to complete and it failed (all on wifi), and I was on a train with fare control and was given a 60 euro ticket. The app says that I have purchased tickets using a past credit card transaction, but no record of this visible in the app, nor any tickets are visible in app. To emphasize: this was all while being connected to bvg wifi. The only conclusion is that using this service in its current state incurs serious risk of getting fined, not to mention inconvenience because of the length of the transaction. This service used to work well but as of now is effectively broken and should not be used for day to day tickets, and I’m probably out 60 eur because of it.

3/5App crashes when you need it
Also for some reason you cannot buy an ABC ticket on the app. Twice when I’ve arrived at the airport been forced to use the ticket machines. Edit: I got a reply from the developer and apparently you can change the fare zone in order to buy an ABC ticket. This app needs improvement with UI and Ux if a user whose has purchased tickets with the app since it’s first released didn’t clearly understand how to access that feature. To clarify I was trying to use my four pack of AB tickets to buy a ticket into berlin from the airport , it did not work. (most likely because BER is in C.) Did I need to buy the C ticket first and then activate the AB ticket? Could the app tell me the next step instead of just locking me out ?

Paid once with Apple Pay, and it worked. Tried to buy a second ticket, and suddenly I need to login or register. Why? But I can’t login since I don’t have a password, and I can’t register that email address because it’s already being used (through SSO I assume). So I try to assign a password to it through the app, but apparently I have to login to do that! How? So I delete the account through the app, and try buying a ticket, but I still can’t use Apple Pay, since that email address is still registered somehow. Finally I’m able to register with my other email address (lucky that I have one), and login and buy a ticket. Hope I can buy a third one…

2/5Monthly tickets disappearing randomly
Throughout February, the monthly Abo/subscription ticket can appear then vanish from one moment to the next. I had to go to BVG office for a printed ticket to avoid the fines, delays, etc. that being caught without a valid ticket leads to. We are not allowed to print out a ticket ourselves, so without an app that works close to 100%, let alone one at 50%, the words that come to mind are: disaster, Abzocke, Schande, usw. By the way, I tried all the “tricks”, namely logging out then back in, turning phone on/off, etc.. all to no avail. Nö, this is an IT mess on the BVG side, and the riders/customers deserve much much better.
