  1. 5/5Exactly What I Was Looking For

I have tried many different music player app solutions as an alternative to the music app for better quality playback. This is the only one I’ve tried that works well for listening to music directly through USB in the car. All of the other apps have issues with starting and stopping, showing the wrong number of songs in an album or playlist, or the music app interrupts playback during use and you have to go back to the app you wanted to use and try again; not this one. The volume leveling is a very nice feature with pregain options, an important detail that is rarely featured. The integration with the local library is excellent and simple. I especially like the interface of the app with easy navigation and shortcuts to access artist and albums. There is a great deal of customization options too. There’s not a feature I can think of that I feel was missed. If you have a local library, and/or want to use it with CarPlay or iPod interface, this is definitely the app you want.

  2. 5/5Managing and playing my music…Voila!

I have been using BTR AMP for about three weeks and I thoroughly love this app! It was extremely intuitive to set up and use. The features are also easy to understand. I have about 4900 songs from my personal library that were transferred to my phone via iTunes. BTR AMP immediately accessed the songs for use within the app. I was instantly impressed with the way it presented my music to me in a completely different (and better) way than I had experienced with Apple Music. For example, as I played my playlists, BTR AMP generated statistics about my listening habits and presented alternative playlists from the ones I had. In addition, I could edit the meta-data on the tracks to improve my library. Great job managing my music in a more enjoyable way than I had experienced before! I subscribed to the Infinity Membership as it is totally reasonable for a lifetime ride with BRT AMP's vision of how to enjoy your own musical experience.

  3. 5/5Amazing, and has smart playlists!

This is an amazing app. There is nothing else like it on the App store. Sure, there are apps that present music from iTunes, from network sources, and from proprietary sources (e.g., Plex), but if you have a well curated music collection not stored in iTunes (Music app) and you want to bring your entire collection with you on the road, BTR Amp is fantastic. For JRiver users, use a "handheld folder" to export your library, then copy it into BTR Amp. Here's the killer feature: Smart Playlists! Yes, you can create smart playlists in BTR Amp! Of course you can create manual ones too, but this is the only app I've seen that reads the tags (including Rating tag) and lets the user create smart playlists. This is the App that has replaced Music (iTunes) for me on my iPhone and iPad. As I use the app more and more, I'm amazed by the level of items I can customize that I will actually use! 5 stars and the app is getting better monthly.

  4. 5/5Excellent local music player

Updated from 3 stars after some help from support. This app is perfect for my use case. It supports FLAC and MP3 (and probably others, but that’s all I have in my library), the CarPlay and Siri integration both work, the app is highly customizable, and the support team is extremely responsive and helpful. Note that this app cannot be used without a $1/month or $10/year subscription fee, or a $30 one-off purchase, but it’s well worth the price of admission for a local music player with full integration with the rest of iOS. It took a bit for me to figure out some of the quirks of the app and how it handles the library, but a couple emails to support got me sorted out. There are some features like bulk editing coming down the development pipeline that will make things a lot nicer, but even as-is it’s excellent.

  5. 5/5Amazing Music Player

I received a gift through Reddit for this app, and I’ve been using it for more than a year. I’ve been loving it ever since; it has everything you need. The user interface is super clean, easy to use, and to import files or connect to a server. Now, here are some of my problems, I feel that the shuffle mode always plays in the same cycle every time, and I wish there were an easier option to “play all, shuffle all” instead of having to hit the three dots, scroll down, and then find it. Thank you so much for such a wonderful app. Happy New Year!

  • 21.1

Version 21.1 focuses on stability, reliability, and quality-of-life improvements throughout the app, with major fixes for playback, external file shares, large libraries, and lyrics support. NEW • Custom lyrics for iTunes tracks - You can now add your own synced .lrc lyrics for any song, including iTunes Library tracks that couldn't previously have associated lyrics files. Simply drop lyrics into the new Lyrics folder or use the new "Import Lyrics File…" action. • Hide the slider knob - A new "None" knob size option lets you hide the scrubber and volume thumbs for a cleaner player appearance while keeping the controls fully draggable. This is now the default setting. IMPROVED • Smoother song changes - Improved lyrics loading, reducing brief pauses when switching tracks. • Clearer playback errors - When a FLAC or other audio file cannot be decoded, the player now explains why instead of silently failing to play. • External file share reliability - Mounted folders are now actively monitored for stale connections. The app can automatically repair many issues, provides clear Remount prompts when needed, and highlights affected mounts in the Files tab before playback is impacted. FIXED • Fixed multiple playback crashes, including issues related to gapless preloading, audio route changes, audio configuration changes, fast seeking, and skipping to the previous track. • Fixed a crash that could occur when locking or unlocking the device during background playback. • Fixed a crash that could occur while rotating the device when the play queue or lyrics view was actively scrolling. • Fixed a crash that could occur when scrolling large libraries ("Invalid Number Of Items In Section"). • Fixed a crash that could occur when playing tracks containing unusual or malformed audio formats. • Fixed an issue where favoriting a song could cause album artwork to temporarily revert to the default placeholder image. • Fixed an issue where stale mounted shares could cause songs to become silently unplayable. • Resume position is now saved continuously during playback, helping preserve your place after an unexpected crash or force-quit. • Karaoke lyrics now correctly follow your selected alignment settings. • Previous Track now more reliably decides whether to restart the current song or move to the previous track based on your playback position. • Fixed an issue where the 10-band EQ could overflow the screen on some devices, clipping outer bands and labels. • Fixed an issue where Plus and Max iPhones could incorrectly display the iPad player layout in landscape mode. • Offline Last.fm scrobbles are now automatically retried when launching the app or returning from the background.
