5/5Advanced Reading Companion
2024: app is continually amazing. I recommend it wholeheartedly. 2022: Highlighted is THE elegant app I always hoped someone would originate—to digitally highlight physical books. eBook quotes and passages can be sent to Highlighted via a Shortcuts app shortcut—as long as either “copy” (or) the iOS share-sheet can be invoked within an eReader. (Apps like Libby will not work, but Apple’s Books app will work.) Accurate OCR (text recognition) is the principal star of Highlighted, making it incredibly easy to save passages of interest. Entries are then globally searchable and easy to export. Artifacts of poorly captured OCR itself are rare. And when aberrations occur it is simple things I’ve seen with almost any OCR capture app. Highlighted seems to work best when you capture text passages in succession, like long paragraphs, rather than whole pages at once. And if you capture text where fragments of text (or sentences) are misplaced, a steady hand and a very clean capture window fixes that tendency. Highlighted is a beautifully designed app, making for a fantastic reading companion. It also supports several languages, with more on the way. And built in ISBN scanning makes it incredibly easy to add new books. Updates are frequent, well considered, and reflect a hard working and thoughtful developer, who's really hitting his stride. Super impressed. All I need now is a tip jar. 2024: app is continually amazing. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

5/5Easily my favorite app on my iPhone now
For the longest time, I manually added all my book highlights into the default iOS Notes app, so finding Highlighted has been an absolute blessing and game changer. Adding new books, as with every other aspect of the app, is completely frictionless and gives me the same sort of satisfaction as watching my physical bookshelf fill up with new books. It’s gotten to the point where I’m reading a lot more than I was before just so I have an excuse to use the app and expand my digital collection of books. Highlighted is extremely clean, both visually and functionally, which I really appreciate. The developer has thoughtfully included only the most crucial features and omitted any feature bloat that you might find in other apps that try to be the jack of all trades, but end up being the master of none. My iPhone experience definitely wouldn’t be the same without Highlighted and I appreciate all the hard work the developer has put into crafting the best possible experience for taking notes on the books I’m reading. Thank you!

5/5Great app!
This is my first review ever (from what I can remember) I’m very excited to use this app! Decided to look for an app that would make it easier to save quotes from the books I read rather than taking a picture and using the markup feature to circle the quote and save it into individual albums in my camera roll. This app makes it way faster to save these highlights! I’ve tried other apps, and there are some comparable ones, but the process in this app is the smoothest and most efficient of them all. A few suggestions: -A feature where I can go through my camera roll to add in all my previous highlights would be great. -The ability to randomly scroll through all my highlights would be cool. I rarely go back to look up the pictures of the highlights in my camera roll unless I’m looking for something specific, so I feel like I’m missing out on a lot of gems I’ve highlighted. A randomized feature would be an awesome way to look back at highlights I might have never otherwise revisited. -Lastly, many of the books I read have diagrams or images they reference to. It would be awesome to be able to attach some of these images to these highlights (just like you can add tags and notes). With these features it would really take this app to the next level. Thank you so much.

5/5Actually FREE
I love this app it’s simple, easy, and straightforward, but works great. I like that it automatically highlights the sentence. I also like that automatically finds the page number. I like that there is a note and tag function but that this app isn’t trying to be something that it isn’t. I love that it exports to markdown which is great for those obsidian note takers. Lastly and most importantly I love that it is actually free. Like this might me the only app on the App Store that is free and doesn’t have in-app purchases. Please keep it that way. If you want to add additional features that I have to pay for then great but thank you for keeping the rest of this free. Oh and also not having annoying ads… I literally recommended it to a friend right after saving my first quote.

5/5Highly Recommended!
I cannot say enough about how much I enjoy using this app! I am a constant reader, and I love to recall portions of what I read. In the past, I have written down passages from my current reading into a journal, but that isn’t always practical. I can’t always find those notes later, and I don’t like having to stop the flow of reading to write out a lengthy excerpt. Enter the Highlighted app!! Yay! It’s simple to snap an image of any page after entering the book into your library through a quick ISBN scan. Selecting text is simple, and the tools to manage multiple sections on a page — or selections from multiple pages —are easy and intuitive. One of my favorite features is the widget. I mark my favorite quotes, and they show up on a rotation in the widget on my phone. It’s like a little window into the worlds I’ve discovered through reading every time I pick up my phone. I can even categorize quotes by topics I create myself if I want to. That’s handy when I’m researching something and want to group information about a topic into an easily accessible collection. Overall, this app makes books even more enjoyable than ever. It gives me the chance to keep, recall, use, and share details from my extensive reading experiences which makes the benefit of every book last far longer than the time I spend among the pages. To the developer: Thank you so much for making such a special application and for creating something to help us all steal a few extra moments with our favorite characters, concepts, and inspirations. I’d never be able to keep everything worth remembering in my active thoughts. There’s nothing better than being able to reach into such a vast collection of knowledge and pluck one perfect gem out of the pile of unforgotten things.
