1. 1/5Could be good, Will not stay logged in (Update)

   UPDATE: I’m now in grad school — at a different university — and this is still an issue! Honestly, what? It’s first day of school, and I can’t even get into the app because it keeps having me sign in. Ridiculous. • • • • • • As a college student, I have been using Blackboard for 3 years now. I could overlook all of the other little inconsequential things that bug me about this app and give it 4 or 5 stars, but there are two major issues. #1: Every time you click on the app, you have to log in. It doesn’t matter if you just logged in five minutes ago, you have to log in again. It’s ridiculously annoying and frustrating, and sometimes not being logged in means you miss notifications. I mean, I didn’t always have this issue. It’s like the issue was fixed and then it started again. #2: Clicking on notifications doesn’t lead you to the notification source. For example, if I get a grade notification, it won’t lead me to the assignment. Sometimes it’ll just open the app and then freeze my phone. Other times, it’ll take me to a random page in the app. But, as I said before, lately I haven’t been getting notifications because of the whole “log in every two seconds Or Else” issue. I can deal with other little issues, but missing notifications from my professors and assignment reminders? That’s not okay. I shouldn’t have to rely on my email to do what your app is supposed to. TL;DR: I’d just really like to be able to log in and stay logged in please.

2. 1/5$1200 for an app that doesn’t work.

   This is not a free app. For one class, completely accessed by blackboard, I’m paying $1,200. This app DOES NOT work. You must stay in the app or it will not work. You need to reference your textbook you have open in safari for an assignment? Too bad. You have the assignment pulled up in blackboard but once you click back from safari it’s completely refreshed. The loading bar is struggling. I can load a 3 hour movie in 5 seconds but it’ll take 5 minutes to load the one class I’m in. I cannot believe this is an app colleges CHOOSE to use. Professors hate it. Students hate it. I can only assume blackboard has someone forced colleges to you it. I would be absolutely embarrassed to have said I worked on this app. You don’t stay logged in. The replies would have you believe this is a college centric issues. It’s not. I can stay logged in on safari and on my computer, it ONLY happens on blackboard. I took classes in 2017 and had 0 issues with blackboard. Yet, almost 10 years later and the app is completely unusable. I get angry anytime I have to do work. Also, videos. Jesus. Who thought to put the debug tool RIGHT ON TOP OF the video settings. You can’t play a video faster or slower because you’ll click on that tool. If you somehow do get it, there’s a 50% chance it won’t even play at the speed you want it to. God I hate this app so much.

3. 1/5Beyond Frustrating

   This app is the biggest, sincere royal pain in the *** to use. Recent app update made it so I have to sign into my schools portal EVERY TIME I use it after just a few hours of inactivity, and now I get occasional freezing where I have to close the app entirely. And, when pressing the “Go Back” button, the previous page reloads itself from scratch, taking anywhere between 1-5 seconds to reload itself. The navigation is mind-bogglingly STUPID. Why do I have to SWIPE MY FINGER OVER THE COURSES TABS TO GET TO THE GRADEBOOK TAB, one of the most important functions of an LMS? And on the topic of navigation, why are my institutions “assigned trainings” mixed in with the list of my actual classes? BECAUSE OF THIS THERE ARE 12 “COURSES” I’M ENROLLED IN, AND ONLY 5 OF THEM ARE ACTUAL COURSES AND CAN’T FILTER THEM AND I HAVE TO SEARCH THROUGH THIS HUGE LIST TO FIND THE COURSE I WANT TO VIEW. I understand this could be part of my school’s fault for setting up “trainings” in this manner, but why on planet earth can we not rearrange classes or pin classes to the top? The current ways to filter classes are not helpful at all. These problems may not seem bad, but when you’re checking it daily and use it for hours every semester, the inconveniences add up fast. It’s so horrid, I even have a more negative view of my school for sticking with this bat**** stupid platform instead of Canvas. I am not exaggerating. I never write reviews. But I’ve never been so angry at such incompetence that I had to write this.

4. 1/5Step it up! Flaky!

   Make a multitasking mode for the iPad! It’s 2020 and this is an app for students. Collaboration ultra worked for ONE DAY! Now in every class the room has suddenly “been deleted” but is still listed and I can access it on the rooms on safari. In my four years of using it I have never been able to click a notification and be taken to what it’s notifying me about. It just freezes or goes to something else. I have to open it manually to see what’s going on. I If I watch a video and swipe down to see my notifications to get a call, the video goes away and plays audio. Then if I refresh it keeps playing the audio and ally’s the video over it I have to fully force quit the app. This app is terrible! I can’t even expand my grades and see comments or what I turned in on this app. I have to use safari. And I don’t get notified when new grades are turned in anymore and only sometimes do I get notifications for assignments that are soon or past due. These were next to the only features that ever worked and not I don’t even have that. Speaking of safari... Sometimes on the web version on safari, the menu goes away so I can’t even click collaborate. I have to go in my History. On the web version, once you get so far down in the text box, the CURSOR DISAPPEARS! And it’s basically useless from that point. Whatever you click... it’s going to click something else. And I use my Apple Pencil so I’m being precise.I hate BLACKBOARD with a passion. And with everyone going online it’s beyond time to STEP. IT. UP.

5. 2/5Annoying notifications. Please make it stop

   At the start of every semester one or more professors decided to post their entire semester all at once. As I’m typing this I’m getting notification after notification on my phone that an assignment due in 2 months has been posted or some other obscure thing. And just when I think the notifications stop another wave rolls through. I would love to see if there’s a way to keep track of how many notifications I’ve received but iPhone maxes out at 99. I’ve been getting notifications for the past hour probably with close to at least 500 notifications. It’s midnight and I would like sleep. I would turn notifications off but I have professors that aren’t mad men and post things when the students will need them so I like to see when the considerate ones post new assignments. Bottom line is for some reason when ever professors post stuff it takes for ever for the items to be uploaded and they all seem to come in at midnight waking me up or keeping me from sleep. This probably isn’t an app issue but rather than the actual site itself and that’s what needs to be fixed here. Or maybe max out notifications at like 10 or something. And then have the notification say “you have 10 or more new things added to blackboard” or something similar to that effect. There are plenty of other issues with the app that I’m sure several people have already complained about but if you care about the well being and sanity of students at university that use this program please stop the notifications.

   Stopped working properly awhile ago. Courses show, but nothing populates when you click on them. Grades don't populate. Constantly get "something's not right" error. Pretty useless now.

   There's always been issues with this app (defaults to showing every class you've ever enrolled in instead of just your current classes with no way to change it, logs you out after a few hours even if you select to stay logged in) but now it won't even load any of my course content. When I click on a course the screen just goes blank.
