   The reason I like this app is because I can learn about way more birds than I used to learn about birds. This app helps me also because me and my family can learn a lot about all the really cool bird. There are in the world, especially hummingbirds.

2. 2/5Not too impressed

   The reason that I’m not very impressed is several reasons. I subscribed to the app and called up my first bird. I was excited that I had recorded a fish crow. The sound recognition was great when I listened back to the recording. It was much more amplified than I was hearing in person. However, it had me make a collection, which I promptly named “birds on my deck” I thought “oh this is great!” Then I paid for this subscription. I can no longer find anything. No collections, not even a record of what I have just listened to prior. You’re just starting all over again every bird as if it is the first, and you do not have a local collection of any kind. I am somewhat disappointed. If it doesn’t change… I won’t be renewing.

   It was easy to download and pretty straightforward: you have to record for at least 10 seconds then you upload the recording, and then it tells you one bird can hear and then you can choose to save it into your albums. However, you do have to pay a subscription either for a week or longer. It’s not much but there are other apps that are much more user-friendly and don’t cost after purchase. The hardest part is figuring out how to terminate the contract that was supposed to be easy.

4. 1/5Asking me to subscribe to the service I’m already paying for

   After using it for years, now it asks me if I want to “speed up” the identification- (no other alternative) then takes me to a sales page asking me to subscribe to the very service I’m already paying for. In addition, it no longer allows me to create separate files and I like to keep my birds separate by the month. I contacted them about a month ago and complained about this. I did not receive a reply. My experience went back to normal for awhile. Now the problems have re-occurred. I’m disappointed because I used to love this app. I’m cancelling now, and I will give my money elsewhere.

5. 1/5Useless Free Version

   This afternoon the app allowed me to identify one bird, an Indigo Bunting, with 91% accuracy. It also identified the same bird sound in a second recording as a Great Horned Owl, with 0% accuracy, which makes me wonder if it randomly assigns percentages and bird names. It was definitely NOT an owl. After these 2 experiences, when I tried to record an actual owl about 7 hours later it only prompted me to upgrade to premium. If I x’d it out my sound was deleted, after recording a magnificent dialogue between two unidentified owls that I’ve been trying to capture for days. Deleting the app.
