1. 5/5Betterment becoming the one stop shop for money management and investment

   Love the company and the vision but as the company evolves and add more features so does the customer, one key missing feature in Betterment Checking is the ability to move larger amount of money for example, what is the point to save a large amount of money for a home down payment and when it comes to transfer money to the title company, you, as a customer have to use another bank account to make the final transaction, moving money from bank to bank relying on the worst financial backbone and infrastructure in the world, to be able to do a wire transfer or cashiers check (yes paper check! In 2023). My suggestion to Betterment is to add the capability to do wire transfer out, even with a fee, it will avoid customers to look for alternatives and check the competitors. Aside of the need for Checking account improvement, I am very happy with Betterment and a investment financial institution, on this front there is no competitor! - old review- I am still in love with Betterment, I continue to diligently do my research on others products available in the market but couldn’t find anything that beats Betterment. Easy to use, hands off goal oriented investment approach and now with checking and money management for me and my family. Looking forward to see what else they can bring. Keep innovating but never forget the core mission and values! —— old review—— I am 4+ years Betterment customer and I like the way Betterment is evolving as a company to better serve the customers. I like the app and the features, there are some room for improvement but overall I am very happy with it.

2. 5/5Beautiful update!

   I love the update and the new logo so much I had to write a review 😍 I’ve been using Betterment for over 4 years for all my investing. I chose Betterment because of its ease of use, it’s automated guidance, and it’s low fees. I don’t know a ton about picking investments myself, and honestly I don’t want to spend my time researching or worrying about my investments. Betterment takes care of all of that for me! I just set up automatic deposits on the date of each paycheck, forget about it for a while, and watch my money grow over time 🤩 The sunrise update made me smile because the new logo is a representation of exactly how I feel about Betterment—the app truly is a part of guiding my life to a brighter future. After all, I am using Betterment to plan for retirement, so I could be using this app for the next 30-40 years! Thanks, Betterment, for the update and for helping make my life easier and brighter ☀️

3. 4/5Joint Checking & Savings

   I started using Betterment because they are the only online banking / investing to let you set up “joint” accounts. Technically, one person is the account owner and you can add another person on. This is great for shared living expenses and saving goals. I really like this feature. It was the whole point of opening a Betterment account, as I already have a Acorns and RobinHood account. However a couple of drawbacks... the money takes a full week to hit the checking account when I make a deposit into checking. But if I make a deposit into my savings account, it’s there in an hour! It’s so weird. Also, it just happens that the two of us both use Citibank as our primary checking account and transfer money to Betterment to share in paying rent and bills, but it’s hard to tell who’s Citibank account the money is coming from when we deposit into betterment checking because the only description is “Citibank”. BUT a the savings account transfers includes the last four digits of each of our accounts so we can easily identify which Citibank account the deposit is coming from. Betterment really needs to make the checking and savings account more consistent. I do like that you can modify your investment portfolio. You can’t with Acorns. But I noticed that when someone leaves a review for Acorns and Stash, the developers, reply to the reviews. This is good to see. However, Betterment never chimes in on reviews. It’s time Betterment started getting back to some of these reviewers!! That’s just unacceptable these days. Over I would recommend Betterment if you want to set up a joint savings and checking with your partner, but they need to speed up the checking transfer time and allow user edits name of the bank to help identify the each users account.

4. 3/5Enjoy Betterment service. Could improve on capabilities though.

   I really enjoy being a Betterment customer, lots of easy ways to manage money and transfer. Great services. Where I think they fall short is in two places: 1) There is no way to get physical cash into your account. Would love to close my other bank account but still need it to deposit cash then transfer to Betterment. Annoying. 2) When you get a check to deposit there is a very high chance your deposit will fail. This is a development problem on the app. 3 of my checks within the last 6m have simply failed because the app cannot consistently pick up the “For Mobile Deposit Only” text. No matter how clear you write it, spacing, etc, there’s a high probability that the deposit will fail cause the detection is subpar. Developers need to improve this. Annoying. Otherwise, keep making me money. I love the high interest rate savings account and easy ways to save for my kids’ college, but these minor annoyances are what keep me from giving Betterment a higher rating here. The inconveniences simply just get in the way, and I need a banking service that just works, and offers high self service opportunities. When I use them, I want them to work. Cheers!

5. 1/5Lost their way

   I’m supremely disappointed that I chose Betterment as my investing platform. I chose Betterment because it seemed they were true to their core mission of helping regular people make smart and risk conscious decisions about their finances and preparing responsibly for their retirement. The tortoise method of winning the race. Their acquisition of Makara and partnership with Gemini are a defection of those core values that initially attracted me. There are plenty of existing places where people can speculate (gamble) with their own money. Betterment should have been better than that. It’s especially disappointing given their change to their fee scheme (which disproportionately impacts younger, smaller, earlier investors. This change adds insult to injury as Betterment is basically charging people more money to lose their money. To date I’ve seen a ~15% unrealized loss across my various buckets. While true that the loss is unrealized, the fees are not. I can lose money all on my own without Betterment’s help. Moreover, there’s no ‘advice’ to speak of, and I’m ineligible for their tax loss harvesting feature. Once the market recovers and I am at a place where I can liquidate my buckets without a 15% haircut, I’m out. Until then I’ll keep investing, but not a moment longer.

   Only my undecided humble opinion but out of 30 reviews I read, I've concluded the following below: 1. Investments doing well & good (%) on ur $$;) 2. Add of a chk/sav acct. can cause app issues. May wait to add in. 3. Use all Security to be cautious w/ all ur info. 4. Communica from Cust. Svc. They prefer & act email "Only". 5. Awesome invest app! (Pos) A lower income can grow a nest into a "Big" nest!;) W/out painful decisions of what to go w/out so can be secure in ur future! Huge +!
