   I’m pretty happy that you can play assassin’s creed odyssey, and several other cloud games. What they don’t tell you is that it takes an annual fee of $40 a year to play on Backbone. I’m also pretty frustrated that I bought this less than a week ago and there now coming out with a USB-C type. I really hope Backbone has a solution or an adapter for older phones for those of us going to upgrade. Overall, I really enjoy it but I also wish you could put a tablet in it instead of a phone just so that you could see better. But it plays Diablo, immortal, assassin’s, creed, odyssey, monster, hunter world, and many other cloud games very well. It even sees all my old saves and loads. I’ve been very surprised. The controller is basically the exact same as my Xbox controller the buttons are just a tiny bit smaller and thinner. We have been looking for an alternative to buy a Nintendo switches for Travel . And I think this is it. I’ve been able to hook up my Steam account, Xbox account, Twitch and I’m hoping to eventually be able to hook up Amazons new world. If they ever get to it that would be cool! There are cheaper alternatives that are just as good but for $100 this feels like it’s built well and will last. Time will tell.

2. 2/5Ridiculous Monetization

   I used to love this app, as it was my gateway to playing my console games on my phone, allowing me to play with my brother who was on our only other home console. However, that ended when I opened the app one day and was greeted with a non-bypass screen opened asking me to accept their “Backbone+”. I figured it was just a free trial, as no sane app would make it so you couldn’t get into a free app without paying. Right? The next day I found 30$ or 40$ of my Apple Cash GONE. I started freaking out, as I didn’t need their premium version when the games I played didn’t require it. Luckily I got a refund and continued using the app as normal. That is until, after a few weeks of switching to Minecraft over other console games (I had bought it from the App Store), upon clicking the game that did not require a subscription to play, presented me with a screen, for BACKBONE+. It said specifically on their web page that the game I had selected (Apex Legends) was available to play for free, and yet I could not get past the screen that demanded I buy the premium version. What’s more, I could no longer screenshot or record, because they had now made it premium. As well as other irritating bugs, this is a clear reason why this app needs some work. I probably don’t understand, but the need for money is reasonable for the developers of this app, and I would understand if they needed to update things to increase their revenue, but a website update or notice would be nice.

3. 1/5Random stops working days at at time

   The main issue I’m having is that out of the blue my backbone has been not working when I attach it to my phone. The orange backbone button lights up every time whether it’s responding to commands or not but sometimes time and now more often then not I have to attach and detach the backbone multiple times to get it to start working. I will attach it and immediately try to press a few button to test if it’s working and they will respond for maybe 1.5-2 seconds and then just stop and I have to keep attaching and detaching to get it to work again. Sometimes I just can’t get it to work at all and have to try the process again later. It’s been happening for approximately 3 weeks since this started but just a few days ago when it decides to not work I will get a “Accessory Not Supported“ alert after I attach it to my phone. And again the orange button on the controller itself lights up every single time so I’m not sure what the issue can be. I have a video of it doing the few responses and then stopping and showing me the alert multiple times as I attach and detach the backbone in an effort to get it to work attached below. The second issue is the pass-through charging is unusually slower than when I initially started using it. I understand that’s it’s not charging directly to my phone so it won’t be as fast as if it was but sometimes I’ll have it plugged up for 30+ minutes just for it to charge 5%.

4. 5/5Love the Backbone controller and App for iOS

   I tried both rayzer Kishi and the backbone for iOS, and for me the backbone came out on top. That being said I would like to see a selection that has controller only games from any seller for direct sales rather than buying a plan for each one and then still have to pay for a game. Also the video size output is kind of small would like it to be the size of a Instagram photo. I want to be able to post my video directly to LinkedIn like I can with Instagram. I would like the start broadcast button to appear on screen window with game not go in and out. Need to Have two separate Instagram share buttons one for highlights and one for stories and or regular post. Make some accessories and updates to this before making a new one so original buyers dont feel jipped, and finally there are two pieces on the rayzer Kishi that make your phone feel snug and safe looks like the same shape as your sides maybe you guys can make those like an add on to purchase to make your phone feel more safe. Also some type of magnifying attachment is needed to attach to the backbone to make your screen look a little bigger I would buy that. Those are my suggestions all in all backbone best Mobile controller on the market razer Kishi a close 2nd.

5. 5/5It may not have been the first, but it is the best

   This thing rocks. I have been using the Kishi for the last 4 months and thought it was a game changer. In a fashion similar to Apple, the backbone takes what others have done and perfects it. With that said, there are a few missed opportunities. First, others have said that this is the controller Apple would have built. While I agree, Apple would have made it white. If this is built for Apple users, then white would be popular and perhaps even preferred over black. Second, if the Backbone extended about an inch and half more it would also work with iPad mini 5. This would be a welcome addition for those who own both and would love to use a bigger screen. This option would make the Backbone a Switch killer. Lastly, a couple extra, potentially programmable, buttons like the Scuff Vantage would be nice. In that same vein, adjustable R2 and L2 like the Scuff Vantage that would allow the user to adjust the travel distance would be great. These additions would undoubtedly increase the cost, but some of us are willing to pay for it. Perhaps these options could be included in a pro version of the Backbone One. At the end of the day, these are all just wishlist items. The controller has changed gaming for me more than any console. I mainly use it for Stadia and it works flawlessly. Who needs to wait in line for a new Xbox or PS5 when this is a fraction of the price and, when combined with Stadia, becomes the perfect gaming solution at home or on the road.
