  1. 4/5Recorded 48 tracks from my Midas M32r!

Great DAW apP PLEASE UPDATE THE APP TO BE ABLE TO RECORD TO EXTERNAL STORAGE!!!!! With IOS 17. Great for backup recordings to my iPad or iPhone off my M32r so its worth the price just for that, and able to get files off to my Mac Pro easily unlike N-track where you have to jump through hoops to get them off. That being said N track has easily selectable channel outputs when connected to my board, with AE you have to setup mix buses to output each track to separate channels. N track creates them for you when you select an output. N track also can handle a lot more AU synths. I really like AE so hoping they keep improving on it and for the price it can’t be beat.

  2. 5/5I have all of the iOS DAWs and this one is #1

Like the title says, I have all the iOS DAWs including Auria Pro, Cubasis 2, GarageBand, Nano Studio 2......etc, etc. I have used Auria Pro and Cubasis 2 as my main workhorses. Auria Pro for its bussing, Cubasis 2 because of its much better work flow. By sheer accident or by divine fate I stumbled upon this DAW and at first I almost passed it by. With the puny $9 price point what could it possibly offer that I already had? Well, for whatever reason I decided to download it. My two biggest gripes about Cubasis are the lack of busses and lack of markers, which is something I use quite a bit of. Auria Pro has the busses but I just cannot get into the workflow of that software. Audio Evolution has it all and more! The workflow is seamless AND it covers busses and markers. I think the developers have lost their mind on the price point! If you are looking for an iOS DAW or are just tired of all the work arounds required by the others then I seriously suggest giving Audio Evolution a try. THIS is what I’ve been looking for all along! I’ve been an iOS musician since 2014 and a recording musician for over 35 years, so I’ve had some experience with these things. I finally feel like my search for an iOS DAW is over.

  3. 3/5Deluxe features Obsolete file handing

There are levels of control this app offers that are deluxe and not found in competitors and I wish I could love it more than Cubasis3 , even though overall feels a bit stiff workflow wise. There is no simple browser mode to gain access to all save or share locations now so abundant since Apple granted easy usb options for iPhones and iPads running ‘modern’ iOS versions. I should choose where I want a saved file to end up, on my device, external drive, or micro sdxc… without going online/cloud then download back to device if your cloud server allows it…other than to photos app only option. Adds way too many limitations…a “Cold War” artefact from the time Apple made it impossible to use mobile devices for creative work by limiting access to that work from anywhere but the app it was originally recorded in. Also, high on resources use, admittedly I was using Audio Evolution on an old iPhone 8+ but I got a lot more tracks working with competitors who offer a more contemporary although (appropriately) also more expensive app.

  4. 5/5Intuitive and transparent

I am mostly using this daw to mix sound files to make ambient fixed media pieces. I have used most other ios daws and find this app to be quick, transparent, fast and doesn’t get in the way. If a bit quirky at first, I adapted to it quickly and it is now my primary ios daw. There is something organic about using my fingers to manipulate the file instead of a mouse but then transfer to the desktop for a more robust computer environment or quickly store files in AudioShare. I am not playing midi instruments and recording voices ( maybe a bit) as many others; so, maybe I can’t entirely speak to this. But this seems like it would be quick and great for this and the tone boosters mastering purchases addons are reasonable and excellent. The purchase price of the app is much cheaper than others and I prefer it regardless of price.

  5. 3/5Capable but outdated daw

Jumped into this daw because of the features that have quickly been added like Vocal Tune Studio, full track pad support and iOS clipboard support. However, it didn’t take long to realize how outdated the user interface is. This daw feels like it was designed for a phone but wasn’t imagined to take advantage of an iPads bigger screen. We should have a proper mixer icon and have a mixer/playlist view and not have to flip through pages to get to the mixer then next again to get to groups and master track then next again to get back to the playlist view. It’s very unintuitive. There’s no way of having multiple effects on screen like AUM and are forced to have effects full screen. This daw lacks 32 bit float rendering and multi core rendering.

    * Many actions can now be done during playback, most of them without a pause, some with a short pause. * Changed the colors of the piano roll and drum pattern editor into a dark mode. * Added a 'Multi-instrument' option when creating a drum pattern track: in this mode, you can assign an audio file or a sound from a Soundfont to a drum 'lane'. This makes it possible to use your own sounds in the drum pattern editor. Each drum lane now also features its own audio processing chain, meaning that it has its own effects grid, volume, panning, ADSR, pitch shift and basic reverb controls. You can use the iOS drap & drop mechanism to import drum sounds as well (max. file size 4MB). * A free drum sound pack consisting of 80 high quality drum samples for use with the multi-instrument drum pattern editor can be downloaded. It features a wide range of kicks, snares, hihats, toms, etc. sorted by different genres: 80's Retrowave, Acoustic, EDM, Foley, Hip Hop, Industrial and Reggaeton. * Optional in-app purchase to extend the free drum sound pack with 420 more high quality drum samples. * Added multi-output support for AUv3 instruments. Additional outputs can be sent to mix busses. * New Settings screen to match the app's style. * Multiple mixer controls can now be adjusted simultaneously. * Added an 'Import Soundfont' option to the instrument selection dialog (although Soundfonts can always be copied directly using the Files app to the AudioEvolution/SoundFonts folder). * Added a 'Share' option to the file pop-up menu in the file browser. * Added an option 'Draw grid on top of clips' which now defaults to 'off'. * Changes to tempo markers can now be undo/redone. * The audio input dialog now makes it possible to select between different inputs of the device itself, so you can for example select the iPad microphone even if a headset is connected. * The state of the AU button in the instrument display is now remembered and stored with the project. * When editing notes outside the current clip area, the clip will now be automatically expanded. * Added a Quantize option to the pop-up menu of selected notes in the piano roll editor. * Added a 'Select all' button to the piano roll editor in Edit mode. * The mixer can now be scrolled when dragging in the volume slider area. * The available memory is now displayed in the instrument selection dialog. * Added an option 'By BPM' to the time stretch dialog where you can enter a source and target BPM. * Added an option 'Ignore MIDI volume (CC 07)' to the MIDI input dialog. * Added an option 'Ignore pitch bend' to the MIDI input dialog. This can help with faulty MIDI keyboards that erroneously send pitch bend messages. * Added an option 'Solo exclusive mode' to the Mixer channel settings. * Solved a possible crash when loading a project with AudioBus active. * The setting 'Ignore other MIDI CC's was not saved. Solved. * The time stretch button in the piano roll editor did not work anymore. Solved. * Available memory display in the instrument selection dialog now gets updated every second which is more reliable since Soundfonts are loaded in the background. * Wheels on/off state in the virtual keyboard is now remembered.

  • 7.0.3

    * Added a 'Project storage folder' option to the BETA settings where you can change the storage folder for projects to a USB drive for example. * Added an option 'Input velocity' to the MIDI input dialog which opens a dialog where you can set the input velocity curve. This can be stored either per MIDI device or per track. The 'Output velocity range' option has been removed and if it was set, it is now mapped to the input velocity curve. * Many changes to MIDI remote setup: - Added Latched/unlatched and MIDI channel columns to support a wider variety of MIDI controllers with different button behaviors. - Because of that, 'Play triggers at 127 only' and 'Arm toggles' have been removed since they can be controlled by turning Latched on or off. - 'First available input' is now changed to 'All'. * When loading a project with two similar USB MIDI keyboards attached, the app should now assign the correct input to the tracks, given the project was saved with this version. * Solved an issue with AUv3's not recording MIDI channel pressure, like the GeoShred Tenor Sax. * Ported the 'Load Project' and 'Instrument selection' dialogs to JUCE. * Solved issues with default note velocity in the drum pattern editor. * Mix-down to M4A format with a sample rate of 48000Hz was not possible anymore.
