  1. 3/5Like the workout when they actually work

I really like the workouts and trainers. I also like that it syncs with your watch and you can see the progress as the workout goes. I also like that they talk during the workouts because that is a distraction for me in a good way. This is the second time I have paid for a subscription. The first time I ended up canceling it because the app was so buggy especially on the TV. I would be partially through a work out and it would just freeze then I would have to restart the whole thing and there’s no option to fast forward so I had to start from the very beginning, you couldn’t pick up where you left off. happened so many times that I just canceled it the TV. I would be partially through a work out and it would just freeze then I would have to restart the whole thing and there’s no option to fast forward so I had to start from the very beginning, you couldn’t pick up where you left off. Ultimately it happened so many times that I just canceled it. Recently I downloaded it again because I really wanted to focus on squeezing in some exercise into my daily routine. But again the app is so buggy especially on the TV. Today I had 15 minutes so I ran downstairs to start a 10 minute exercise. I spent 10 minutes trying to get a workout to start, I tried three different workouts but it would always freeze then tell me it was unavailable, by that time my opportunity to work out was over as I had ran out of time. I also can’t find where my library is on the TV after I have saved exercises to it.

  2. 4/5Fitness + pros and cons

I used Fiton in the past but my husband encouraged me to try Fitness+ since I now have a watch that supports it. I love the integration between my Apple TV and watch! So cool to see my activity on the top of the screen. There seems to be lots of great exercises offered, taught by great teachers. I also love that you can see the music tracks from any workout in case you like a song and want to add it to your library. Great feature! What could use some work, in my opinion, is the filtering and menus. I absolutely hate scrolling down to the bottom to get to my saved workouts. I also hate not being able to have menus instead of through the whole page to find something. This is for both the mobile and Apple TV versions. And I was so used to being able to filter workouts based on fitness level that now it seems so clunky and cumbersome to have to watch a preview to see what I might encounter and try to gauge the level from there. When you have 30 minutes in the morning, the last thing you want to do is scroll though a bunch of workouts you’d never consider just to get to something that seems doable. I love yoga workouts so maybe there could be a way to quickly access yoga workout and then filter by level and time from there. Because let’s be real, even with modifications, not every yoga workout can be for beginners. And beginner ones aren’t ideal for expert level. This seems like such a no brainer, to have better filters, I’m honestly surprised Apple let it go out and stay like this.

  3. 4/5Motivating app, glitches are frustrating

I have completed 100+ trainer led workouts in the last 7 weeks. I have enjoyed the variety of trainers, workouts, and music. This app has motivated me to stick to my goals and create a life changing routine that I actually look forward to every day. Building a plan 1-8 weeks has been great. I like that you can pick up to 5 different types of exercise, chose your daily time commitments, and then on that day modify the time/video for your suggested exercise. I do get frustrated when I do a workout, I can see it on my summary for the day, but it does not “check” off of my plan. I have had this happen 4 times in the last 6 weeks and it is discouraging when I’m on track, but have to redo a workout just to get the completion credit. Competing with other friends has been great. I switched from 8 years with Fitbit Premium to Apple Fitness+ with an Apple Watch primarily because FP got rid of challenges. I would love if I could have 2-3 friends competing with you at a time, but the 1:1 is better than nothing. Sometimes the awards are not totally accurate with the activity that it should be awarding for. There have been times that I have exceeded a previous goal, but the award gets “stuck” at a previous metric. I have used my Apple TV, iPad, and iPhone to exercise and all have maintained a considerably seamless. Overall my Apple Fitness+ experience has exceeded my expectations and previous experience with Fitbit.

  4. 4/5Great app, but needs improvement

What I love: -1. The way it automatically syncs to your watch. No more forgetting to start or end a workout on your watch - the app does it for you. 2. The ability to build plans that suit your music tastes 3.How you can view music & playlists on Apple Music Overall, this app contains Apple’s trademark seamless integration across Apple devices. What needs to improved: 1. I would love to see Kettlebell workouts. Kettlebells have become increasingly popular, and I am shocked that Fitness+ hasn’t included them yet. 2. For the plans, I wish I could delete & add some of my favorite workouts. For instance, I made a plan, but I really want to include the strength workout featuring Daft Punk. I can’t find a way to delete one 20 minute workout and add in another one of my choice. 3. I think the whole Health & Fitness apps really need some updating. You should be able to edit your workout, like the start and end times for when you forget, or the distance of a run when you are on a treadmill or do a measured track but the watch records it incorrectly. 4. I wish you could fast forward and rewind in the workout. I know that might make things difficult since it syncs to your Apple Watch, but it’s annoying when you have two workouts in a day, but both workouts spend 3 minutes doing a warmup. I don’t always need to warmup for my second workout but there’s no way to skip it.5. Sometimes the app refuses to connect to my Apple Watch - I think that’s probably the glitch I’ve encountered the most often.

  5. 4/5Mostly great, needs some updates and fixes

Update: Apple has addressed many of the issues in my original review. Thank you! My new suggestions are: let us schedule rest days or input sick days on our watch. Sometimes I get discouraged by breaking a streak even when doing so is needed or beyond my body’s control. Rest days let me manage my time without getting fixated; and they’re necessary when sick. Being able to schedule rest days so I took them before I got injured or burnt out would make it easier to stay on track and avoid feeling discouraged about progress. I’ve got a packed, demanding life. I’ve got school age kids who make our home a revolving door of viruses. I’m in my 40’s and more prone to injury than I was in my 20’s. I feel like the metrics could make room for all of that. The trainer team is phenomenal. 5 stars to the trainers and whoever was in charge of casting them. The workouts and variety of workouts are also great. Items I would like to see addressed and updated: 1) [had been fixed] 2) [has been fixed. Thank you!]. 3) [addressed but not per my suggestions for audio. Still sounds better overall]. 4) where I am connected to friends on my fitness/watch; I find a lot of the automatic responses pretty rude and sarcastic. I’m all in favor of less smack talk and more positive affirmation/encouragement. I would be mortified if I accidentally sent one of my tender hearted friends one of those mean responses.
