  1. 1/5Do not recommend

Hello, I hope this message reaches the right audience. I booked a trip to Leavenworth in October though the Amtrak app. When I tried to find a trip, I pressed on the button that states find a train. With this assumption that I was getting a train, and since I’ve never ridden amtrack, I book the first ticket seen. Later when my trip was coming up, I checked on my trip as I was curious what train it was. I googled the number shown and to my surprise 8848 was a bus. With this, I was very confused as this was the only option to choose when booking and I pressed on “Find Trains”. I tried to cancel the trip and I am being charged a large service fee. A fee that does not make any sense to me as I was told this was a train. How am I supposed to know that it’s a bus when I press on find a train. I called customer service and they denied the removal of the cancellation fee. All I wanted was a train ride, and I come out with no train ride, no bus, and less money than what I stated with. I find this process incredibly confusing and unfair for people like me that have never booked a “train” before. As the agent told me, Amtrak assume the customer knows what their booking when they order a trip online. That makes no sense when it was not expressively told to me that it was a bus when I pressed find a train.

  2. 4/5Bad Customer Service

I usually have a good experience on Amtrak… today was an exception. I have crutches and a boot. Didn’t ask specifically for disability seats and was given an assigned seat… I asked the attendant if this was aisle or window. She barked Idk… were full. Not true because coming from Philly to Wilson the disability seats were available just as on this return trip. She had to help with bags and didn’t seem to happy. I know the job is tough sometimes dealing with the public but a little courtesy and compassion goes a long way…during the trip I could have been more comfortable but wasn’t given that chance. I could have asked for better accommodation but decided I could make it. Thankfully, my seat-mate got off a few stops later and I was able to get the entire seat to elevate my foot. Sadly, she later got into a confrontational situation with another passenger whom needed to use the restroom during a layover. You don’t have to be nasty to inform customers if a service is not available. Hope the next experience will be better. Signed, Limpy Traveler

  3. 3/5No Time Updates

At 8:30p, I got a notification via the app that my train was delayed 41 mins. The app did not update with the new time, however, it does have a red banner on the top of the screen stating the train was delayed. When I click for more details, it just gives me the original time frame information. Luckily, I also got a text message w/ the time update. Unfortunately, another notification for train delayed came through around 11:30p. But I didn’t get a text message update & the app has not updated. I have to go Amtrak’s website which wasn’t much help since my reservation information hasn’t changed. I had to Google the name of my train to get a time update. What’s the point if the app, if it is not going to update with delays. Not every train station is located in a good neighborhoods. Updating the times of departure would be helpful. The lack of a time update makes me anxious & it makes me discouraged to ride Amtrak again especially on a 9+ hr trip. What if I miss my train because the website (under my reservation) and app does not update? What if I am waiting in an empty train station in an unfamiliar neighborhood? It’s right. Please update your app & website with the right & easy to follow information. Please.

  4. 2/5Lost in Transit - Amtrak Misadventure

Navigating the Amtrak app is like solving a Rubik’s Cube in the dark, but with more frustration and fewer rewards. Just trying to check a schedule feels like a Herculean task. First, you have to log in—because why would you need easy access to basic information? But once you’re in, the app just redirects you to their web page, where you're immediately bombarded with ads for their credit card. By the time you've dodged all the pop-ups and miraculously found the schedule, it still doesn’t load. It’s like the app is challenging you to prove just how badly you want to take that train. Honestly, I’d love to ride with Amtrak, but at this point, I could probably walk to my destination faster than I could buy a ticket through this app. I can't see how this app isn't intentionally designed for maximum frustration and time-wasting. It’s as if someone decided to create an app with the sole purpose of making you miss your train. Every button is a mystery box, a gamble on whether you’ll get where you need to be—or get thrown back to the beginning. In short, using the Amtrak app is an adventure in futility. If you're looking for a reason to tear your hair out or just have some time to kill, this app is your golden ticket.

  5. 5/5Round-trip from New Orleans to Atlanta, Georgia

It was my husband’s first long distance experience I had said so much about my previous travels on Amtrak and I was looking forward to sharing that experience with him. Sadly, the crescent 20 on September 3 did not have a dining cart, but they did have the café. I think the food served in the café although prepackaged and heated by microwave is on another level, I believe the prices are very fair, and food service attendees are both friendly and helpful. Willing to work with you with whatever form of payment you have as is acceptable through the company. Shout out to Nanette on Crescent 19 September 4 from Atlanta to Georgia. I was disappointed to not have access to the diner cart since it was only for those who had upgraded tickets. regardless of the passengers, the conductors did their very best to keep it clean and organized. seats have plenty of wiggle room as well as the ability to lay back and raise your feet. if you’re one of those who likes to travel with a lot of packages or suitcases, this is the best way to travel since you’re very lenient with their luggage limits I look forward to better prices as well as more places to catch the train yes a couple of delays but I am trying was able to keep us updated via text for those who have registered. They have very little control over vehicles that break down in the middle of the tracks. I do like the option of being able to bid at the last minute for an upgrade. I would like to see the prices of romance as well as upgraded accommodations, have more reasonable pricing. Crescent 19 from Atlanta to Georgia horrible ride at some point I thought we were going to get derailed. I’m just saying I felt like a milkshake. Looking forward to the next trip.
