4/5A 5-star app that STILL isn’t.
I’m still waiting for that simple bookmark sorting feature. 11 yrs and counting! To the reviews that say there’s no thesaurus…follow the word links. Every word on any page is a live link to another page with more similar words. Isn’t that what a thesaurus is? Links to words that are similar? It’s not a 3-star app either. I’ve used this app for years(iPad 2, 2012 I think?) but even after all this time, the bookmarked word list STILL has no sorting function, not even alphabetically. If you’ve bookmarked hundreds of words as I have, it’s a slog to do it manually. Grab a W word from most recent bookmarked words and drag it past all the other words to its rightful place at the bottom of the list. Now do that with each unsorted new word. The 2nd issue is not being able to backup said bookmark list as separate readable list file to store and print out for study purposes. All other mentioned attributes in other reviews are true. There are even adapted foreign word phrases like sotto voce and noblesse oblige, a good amount of slang, and outdated but fun words like snollygoster and flapdoodler that do have a purpose when no other word would do the job. And for the consummate wordsmith, the thesaurus feature can keep you entertained for hours. For me, it’s a 5-star app that isn’t. Add the aforementioned vital features and it’s worth a whole sky full of stars!

1/5Ridiculous!
This has to be THE WORST dictionary ever! A dictionary should define a word- Period! It does not need to list EVERY possible use of that word as a separate entry!! And should not list every phrase the word is used in as separate entries!! Type in “A”, “And”, “At”, etc- and there are literally HUNDREDS of entries for the word! A few examples can be easily listed in the definition, NOT as separate entries!! A dictionary SHOULD be scrollable- one should be able to type in a few letters and see the words beyond that in the entries, without having to change one letter to continue thru the list! For example: if I type “rad”… I should not have to change the “d” to an “e” to continue scrolling! Obscene slang words are generally not included in dictionaries, they are put in urban or slang dictionaries, and not listed hundreds of times in a row listing every slang phrase ever known! Misspelled words should not be listed as entries- the search feature would take a person to the proper spelling! Don’t bother with this dictionary, it is not worth the aggravation!!

5/5My Go-to app!
As a child I was taught to "look it up". I learned that my parents were not always going to give me the answer or guess the answer. Later guessing wasn't satisfactory to me either, so I bought my very own dictionary and thesaurus on campus. This dictionary is even more than I expected and a joy to search, even medical terms are defined. At 69 and disabled I spend even more time reading and studying. Word origins are an interest of mine and are included in this app. Get it.

4/5Fairly Good Dictionary App
I have been using this app for a few years, and I finally got sick of the “Review now, Ask Me Later” dialogue box enough to post a review: It’s a good and reliable dictionary app. I have three total dictionaries on my iPhone, because no single app is enough; although I’ve had this one longest. It has the nice, desirable feature of speaking the word selected. It does a better job than most at providing an accurate pronunciation for most words, but the fault for those words not correctly pronounced is hard to place, as the device itself might often own the blame. I like the feature of inputting first few characters of word during search, which avoids lost time for searching out words that spelling is unknown. I mean, in all but a few cases, I search for spelling purpose more often than definitions. In cases I want definition, it provides good and detailed information, plus derivatives. I like it, use it often and recommend it. I only give four stars because I have yet to see a dictionary app that is good enough to rate all five...But this one gets top spot.

5/5A truly great dictionary.
I have had this dictionary since 2016. I am impressed with its coverage of all words. If you have misspelled a word, it gives you several options of the word you might be looking for. It also will give you the derivation of the word: did it come from old French or another language. It will also give you some words which are places or the name of paintings or statues. It also allows you to look at all the words following the one you looked up. I think it is a great dictionary & would highly recommend it. It is also available at a very good price I believe. Take a look! There is an updated 2019 version, but I like what I have very much and hope you will too.

• Etymologies (word origins) You will find a clear and brief account of the origins, history, and sense-development of a major part of the modern English vocabulary. For example, you will learn that the word 'quarantine' comes from Italian quarantina (“forty”), from quarantina giorni (“forty days”). Originally when a ship arriving in port was suspected of being infected with a malignant, contagious disease, its cargo and crew were obliged to forego all contact with the shore for a period of around forty days. • Database updates • UI improvements • Bug fixes
