1. 5/59GAG is where the real memers live

   9GAG has a place in my heart that will always be deep and forever being filled with dank content and some sweet rage comics! But the thing that I want to warn new 9gag users of in today’s climate is. 1. 9gag is kind of overstocked with Twitter post screenshots (twitter post are not memes.) 2. Repost from Facebook, instagram, and tik tok are also over done nowadays. 3. People don’t leave potatoes after a long post anymore. 4. Captains always forget to *flies away* after giving good research information. 5. Rage comics are being forgotten and constantly stolen for repost if there are any new ones arising (start making rage comics of your own and stop reposting them!!!) 6. Country balls are still around and even have their own category but again repost are and issue. 7. Banana for scale is dying at a rapid rate :( So as you can see. 9gag is in a funny shape at the moment and is nowhere close to the way it used to be, where fun/dank and original content was being made frequently and served hot and not ridden with people stealing good memes for likes, no more rage comics, non-flying captains, no potato leaving after long post, Facebook/Twitter repost crap! Yet, I still get in the fight everyday to sift through fresh like the true veteran I am. Maybe one day we can all just make it the wonderful place it once used to be all over again. 2. 4/5Back in my day!

   Ah yes, 9gag, the beautiful app created to help pass the time. Whether you are bored at home, in a waiting room, or needing to pass the time for whatever other reason - 9gag is your companion. I've been a user for too many years to count (somewhere between 6-9 years) and I have enjoyed the ease of the app, the dank memes, but most of all the community. Since the app has asked me to rate them and I've been putting it off for some time now, I figure why not. These days the memes are more scarce than they once were and it seems like a lot of content gets through to the hot page that is questionable considering many of us have seen it for the millionth time. With enough time I'm sure I'll see it all but thankfully 9gag still is able to offer me some new things I haven't seen. Often I find myself cracking up at the comments more than the posts themselves but then again, I'm still entertained! And that is the point of the app. I'm giving this four stars because the app could be better. Mainly, I think the developers should find a way to stop recycled memes (as well as bs Twitter/IG screenshots) to find their way to the hot page as it is one of the biggest complaints that I see in the community and definitely one of my biggest complaints as well. Get past that and I think this app could come back to its former glory. Until then I'll just keep trotting along and making my way to the comment sections to have a good laugh.

   You need to use the app yourself on an iPhone. You’re getting 3 stars because 9gag is so awesome, but your app experience is terrible. Read the negative reviews with an open mind. You’ve changed things so that a very simple swipe up triggers ads to open in a new window. I understand that your business model is centered around ad revenue, but you will continue to offend users and lose your loyal user base if you don’t change your greedy ways. Sure, show ads. But c’mon. Stop it with the hair trigger, open ad, just by innocent scrolling feature. You’re better than this. ***Edit: I got sick of the app and your ridiculous ad based experience so I decided to go to your website from my mobile device. The user experience is equally as terrible. Do any of you even browse your own site as a regular user? Get a grip! You need to emulate a mobile browser throttled to a typical human’s internet speed (not the high speed luxury connection all of your ad revenue is paying for). Maybe then you will realize why your year over year traffic and new user retention is at ours lowest point ever. Good luck with that.

4. 1/59gag has fallen.

   9GAG, once counted as the glorious name of a glorious cult. We were better than even 4Chan or Reddit. I used to browse Reddit seeing pics/gifs that were originally posted in 9gag, sitting on the front page. Beside the original dank memes that were being posted, there were the interesting stuff going on as well. Like, there were people who literally made robots with our logo on it; or people who made huge dickbutt and 9gag logo graffitis. We had our culture. What happened? The mobile app happened. It allowed quick access to everyone, us included but also it made it easier for the 10 year olds to put their filthy hands on as well. A big mistake but we could fight it off. But right as we were restoring 9gag back to normal again, the NSFW and GIRL sections were removed. Dropping the age restriction to 12 with no sex and nudity mentioned in the AppStore. Letting another huge swarm of kids into the cult. It was no more. Soon the veterans gave up. 9gag dev also banned the famous people who tried to fight or bring originality and literally offering free service to the cult, with the excuse of "Self promotion". There is literally an anti-9gag subreddit protesting 9gag stealing Reddit posts. It is now filled with unfunny normie kids commenting "xD" on unoriginal posts stolen from iFunny (the place I originally escaped to find 9gag) being posted 100 times in hot 250 in trending and 1000 times in fresh. I was browsing 9gag heartbrokenly as every time in the past 7 months, and literally saw an original iFunny post being featured on hot. This the lowest we can get. And the devs did it. Ryan ditched us for money.

5. 5/5Great update, even greater frustrations

   Definitely loving the new update after they fixed the annoying scrolling bug however there are still issues that need to be addressed but I will only discuss two that I didn’t find highlighted in other reviews. 1. Video playback freezes when using the scrub bar and sometimes I get just audio when scrubbing while the video remains frozen. 2. What adds to that frustration is the fact that you need sniper aim with your finger on the scrub bar otherwise you just end up enabling the side menu (right swipe) or a different feed (left swipe) when fast forwarding or rewinding a video. Would be cool if there was an option to disable the swipe gestures all together because I find myself accidentally enabling them sometimes when scrolling the feed. Maybe when the swiping is disabled there could instead be two buttons on each side to activate them or the easier fix is maybe enabling it only when a user swipes closer to the bezel only and not anywhere on the app. Not sure if devs see our devices along with our reviews but just in case, I’m on an iPhone X with the latest software and I get the video freezing issue on both WiFi and LTE. And yes I have tried countless times reinstalling the app and deleting any pertinent history of the app off my phone as well as the app’s cache in the settings menu before I do a reinstall.
