2/5Upgrade to 8 and can’t access passwords anymore
I used 1Password 7 for years. Didn’t pay for it but never had an issue. Decided to upgrade to 8 with a paid subscription. A few months in I couldn’t access my account on the app on any device. Says my password had a typo, try again. I was still able though to access my vault thru a browser. Reached out to support to troubleshoot. In my pie research I found that a new app could cause an issue. The only one I downloaded during that time was another password manager (it had old, old password that wasn’t on 1pass). Seems that’s what caused it to glitch. Deleted the offending app and was able to access my account on my phone again. Few weeks later same thing happened again. Couldn’t access vault on any device, even with secret key, but this time, also couldn’t access on browser either. Reached out to support again and over the course of 2+ weeks via email ONLY (no chat, no phone support), the final solution they came up with is to make a new account, delete the old but the passwords (over 400) I had stored would not be recoverable. Huh??? THAT was/is not a solution. When the issue 1st occurred I spent 4 hrs copying and pasting my passwords into a spreadsheet and then printed it….just in case. Well just in case happened. 1Password 7 worked just fine for years. No glitches. No issues. Signed in and accessed my information. The minute I “upgraded” to 1Password 8, it has been a total nightmare. It is touted as THE best out there but for me, not so. Now I’m looking for a new manager.

3/5Stop trying to get me to share my info with you, 1Password!
Generally, I’ve been happy with 1Password. However, recently, it seems every time I log into it, it tries to get me to share my information with it about my family account “for product improvement reasons.” In the dialog box, the option is to accept the sharing is on by default. But when I deselect it and dismiss the dialog box by selecting “Confirm Choices,” the app just asks me again the next time I log in. I DON’T WANT TO SHARE. Let it go, 1Password. It’s creepy. While you promise not to look at the passwords, the implication is that you can see the sites we use and the name of our items. No thanks. Additionally, the desktop app also wants to have full accessibility access on the Mac. This is a bit disconcerting and confusing when the browser plugin does just fine without it). Since I don’t want or need 1Password to fill passwords outside the browser, it’s annoying. Also, 1Password 8 is only available for direct download on the Mac, and I don’t want that—for security reasons I prefer to download (and update) via the App Store.

3/5Best password manager I’ve used, beyond what I thought was possible
First off, I’m just gonna say I never excepted to “love” a password manager. But 1 password has blown me away with its functionality and how easy it is to use. With one caveat that makes it hard to recommend. It’s always asking for my password, like constantly. I work in tech and have done a lot of cybersecurity. I get it. But the app is basically unusable unless you disable every security feature (I have it never log me out, turn off the feature that breaks Universal Clipboard, and basically make every setting as lax as possible). with every security feature off, it asks for my password an acceptable amount of times. I literally had to add my password to my Apple autocomplete suggestions AND I have it in an unencrypted note AND stored in my iCloud Drive because 1Password can’t ^}*%ing seem to stay logged in for more than 30 seconds. I get that you’re trying to make things “more secure” but you’re really not. I’m about an inch away from changing my password to “123” because of how disruptive it is to use my phone. I should pretty much never have to use anything thing but my biometrics and my phone pin yet 1Password is over here asking for a 37 digit password every 10 seconds. Ugh

1/5Downhill in the last few years - a very steep one
I’ve been a user at least 5 years. I’m on the Team Plan. I was initially very happy with this product. When they switched to 1Password 8 a couple of years ago it was a train wreck of a transition. I spent 2 days trying to accommodate their changes, on the verge of cancelling and going elsewhere. I should’ve followed my instincts. Specifically, the browser apps aren’t very intelligent. Many times it can’t “see” what website I’m on so I have to open the desktop app to copy and paste in the login credentials. Secondly, the organization of users on my team is horribly complex and confusing. There are “teams” “people” “groups” “vaults” and a slew of permission which, based on their UI, constantly conflict with each other. For example, I have a vault that two people have permission to see but there is a persistent label on the vault that states “everyone in your team can view and edit items in this vault”. Which is it? If they can’t get these things right how can we entrust them with our most vulnerable information? I’m losing confidence with their product management team and can no longer vouch for this company. On top of all that, support is horrendously slow. Their customer support team doesn’t even read the email to provide a solution that fixes the issue quickly. Instead they resort to copy and paste boilerplate responses with the hope that you’ll just go away. So many back and forth emails over a week to have one simple issue resolved when all it required was reading my email and answering the question. 1Password has also offloaded support to their “community” which appears to be a trend in the software space these days. Hundreds of dollars a year for what? A product who’s marginal cost is close to zero and they won’t even read my support request? Give me a break. I’m out.

2/5Like the look, not to thrilled about the update all together
Update: Still using the old 1Password 7 version. Waaaaay better than the 8 version, which didn’t even import all my passwords to it from the 7 version. Staying with the 7 version. Maybe when they come out with a 9 version I’ll give it another try. Till then, 7 is my lucky number. I like the look however with the new 1Password8 it doesn’t show vaults separately. I hate that. I created different vaults to manage information and now it’s all mixed together. 😑 Bring that back and the ability to customize the Home Screen to have vaults, not just favs, pinned, recently used, blah blah blah. Also where’s the Apple Watch integration??? I’ve paid for the family plan for well over 5 years now and absolutely loved it. Even recommended it to others but with this new update I may cancel our plan and find something else. That’s how much I hate the new update. Giving it about a month to get used to (if I can tolerate the change for that long) but if it doesn’t have what I need and like I’ll more than likely find something else.
